Laur’s and Andy’s Halloween Happiness Trip Day 13

Laur’s – 28
Andy – 29

Monday 1 October 2007

Our wake up call came this morning at 9 am, but we didn't manage to get up until 9.45 am. The late nights were really starting to catch up with us now. Andy fetched breakfast and we ate in the room; waffle, sausage, bacon, orange juice and hot chocolate.

We set out for Epcot and arrived at 11.30 am. We had totally forgotten that it was the 25th anniversary of Epcot and were thrilled to be given our 25th anniversary badges and comemmorative park maps, which included an opening day map.

We got a fastpass for Soarin whilst there was still some left and had our first voyage on Nemo and Friends. I really enjoyed this, I thought it was really cute, especially the part on the EAC when you can't really work out what direction you are going in. Andy wasn't quite so enamoured, he is definitely suffering from Nemo overload.

After the ride we spent some time watching the beautiful mantees. I asked the trainer about how they sleep as they have to come to the surface every few minutes to get air. I thought it added to the mystery of these incredible creatures that they don't know the answer, it could be that they sleep for only very brief periods, or that they subconsciously rise to the surface to take a breath. I bought a cuddly manatee in the shop on the way out, who Andy joking named George and it stuck. So George he is.

We had lunch in my favourite counter service restaurant, Yakitori House, in Japan. We shared a Japanese beef curry, ginger cake and apple juice. Next it was time for the assault on my favourite shop, Mitsukoshi. I bought a Halloween Hello Kitty (Hallo-kitty!), a pen, notebook, ice cube tray and some candy, and Andy got some socks and Thomas the Tank Engine gum. We also got a bottle of Japanese marble soda to try.

The soda was really tasty and it was neat because you first had to figure out how to open the bottle and then push the marble through so you could drink it. I imagine this would be classed as highly dangerous in England as the marble stays in the bottle, but it is trapped so you can't swallow it. Whilst we were having a drink, we got talking to a woman who had bought one of the limited edition Figments and she showed us the spelling mistakes they had made on him! She was very excited because she had also met the man who was the original voice of Dreamfinder.

It was time for our Soarin fastpass by this point so we headed there. The FP queue was very long and we debated on whether to wait or not, but in the end decided to stay. I am so glad we did! When our group was called to go into the boarding area, the dream squad were there and we were all awarded Dream lanyards and pins! I was so amazed and there were a few tears, it was so exciting and I thanked the CM very much. (I was also amazed by the amount of people who seemed baffled by this and seemed to have no idea of what was going on.) As if that wasn't magical enough, we got to ride on the front row for the first time ever - it was like we had never experienced the ride before and I saw a really hard to spot hidden Mickey that I didn't know was there!

After all the excitement, I put on my lanyard and we rode Living with the Land. We headed to Test Track next which had a staggeringly short queue despite how busy the park was for its anniversary. We even got a ride car where the screen worked which I don't ever remember before.

We moved back to the World Showcase and tried out the new Mexico ride. We both enjoyed this, Andy more than me - he said it was his favourite new addition. It was time for a compulsory margarita next, and this year I tried a fiesta one which was very nice. Incidentally, when I went to the restroom about this point, a woman congratulated me on my dream lanyard - I was pleased some people knew the magnitude of it!!

We had a wander round the world with our margarita, looked in the China shop, watched the dragon acrobats and Andy got a stella at the World Gateway. We headed back to Mexico and we were both feeling pretty hungry by this time, so we got a chilaquile (chillakilla) each from their Food and Wine stand. They were delicious and very spicy. We rode the Mexico ride again before deciding to call it a day. Unfortunately, the heavens opened as we were making our way out of the parks, and of course we didn't have our ponchos or umbrella with us.

It therefore took us a long time to get out of the park because we kept stopping to shelter until we decided we were wasting too much time and just made a run for it. We took the bus back to the Pop arriving at 7.50 pm.

I had a bath to warm up again and Andy had a shower and we went down to the food court for tea. I had nachos supreme and Andy had a double cheeseburger and fries and we had a chocolate cake each. It had started to rain again as we made our way to the food court and it had gone decidedly chilly so I had a hot chocolate with my tea and Andy had a weird concoction of sprite and caffeine free diet coke which he made up himself.

We called in at the shop after tea so that I could choose a pin for my new lanyard. After much deliberation I picked a retro muppets pin. We also bought an ornament of Ariel and Eric that we'd had our eye on as they are 'our' prince and princess.

We stopped at the games room for a few games of air hockey, which culminated in me somehow throwing my bat thing across the room in my excitement and Andy following it up by throwing the puck, and then went to the bar. We picked up a lava lamp cocktail for me a couple of Bud lites for Andy and went back up to the room at 10.45 pm to drink them and watch TV. Bed at midnight.

Laur's princess:

How cool to get the Epcot maps and stuff and winning a dream lanyard too :yay: I agree how do people not know about the YOAMD I think they should make it a rule only those who know can win, more prizes for us :rotfl2:

Sounded like a great day Laur's :goodvibes

That sounds like the most memorable day you will have at Epcot for a while. What a wonderful and special day for you both. Not sure it can be bettered but with Disney who knows.

So pleased for you both, must have made this year's trip even more special
