We are sailing on the 11 night Southern cruise in June. I'm just now thinking about the amount of clothing we'll need and are wondering about laundry. Is there laundry service I can pay for and/or washing machines? Any details would be appreciated!

There are washing machines.

I think there's also dry cleaning, but I wouldn't do that for just normal clothes.

We recently did laundry on the Dream. It was pretty cheap but the dryers took a very long time. Ended up hanging things around the room to dry.

Some of the dryers don't work very well. I have wondered if the lint traps ever get cleaned out.

Yes, there are self serve laundry rooms on each deck

Cost is $2.00 per load to wash and $2.00 per load to dry. You can get soap & softener from the dispenser, also ($1.00 each)

Or, if you prefer you can sent your items out to be laundered:

I bring enough so I don't lock myself into having to do laundry. I've done that once, never again. It eats up so much time, and the most convenient times to go are always busy so you have to wait for a machine.

The two options (to do laundry on board on not) can be illustrated well by my sister and I who each took our family on the Fantasy for 7 nights last summer. I laughed at her when she had two suitcases per person to our one, and she laughed at me when one evening we had to run back to the laundry room after the show and at other times, and struggle with washers that were full or dryers that didn’t work well.

So whichever of these makes more sense to you, you should do. Or just spend some money according to the laundry list Shmoo posted above.

I've done laundry on board and it can be a time suck. I bring a few detergent pods just in case, but I now over pack so I don't have to waste any ship time dealing with laundry

Just remember if you bring your own soap that the machines are HE, so don't just bring regular soap. Also, make sure you follow the instructions. I've seen machines not work because buttons were pushed out of order.

We are sailing on the same cruise. I'm hoping to pack enough that I won't have to do laundry. However, if I need to do a load or two it's no big deal. I've done laundry on the ship before.

Grumpymom73 & GoofyKidd....we will be on the same cruise! I have been debating about the laundry issue since it's 11 days so glad for the upfront info on the laundry situation. Maybe we will just use the laundry as a backup if we run out. I don't mind paying if it all works but Hate dealing with dryers that don't dry especially on vacation. :laundy::daisy:

Yes to both. You can use your card to pay for soap, self-service washing & self-service drying. Getting an available machine can be a challenge at certain times. You can also leave your laundry in a bag (which will be in your closet) for your room attendant to collect, & DCL will wash those clothes for you, for a fee, of course.

Also in hot water. So, nothing that would shrink.

I always do laundry on board. I don't find it that time consuming. First, do it early or on port days if you stay on board. Middle of the afternoon seems to work too. I put the clothes in the machine, the machine displays the length of the wash or dry. I set a timer on my phone and go off and do something. Pet peeve is when people leave their things in the machines for hours. I've never had a problem and prefer not to pack too much.

I do send my husbands dress shirts to be pressed. I hate ironing.

I'd already decided that on our 14 night panama canal cruise next year we would just send out our clothes to be washed because the expense is worth it to me not to have to mess with washing them myself.

However, having just read the "hot water" comments above now I am concerned. Hot water would ruin MANY clothes! Is there a way to ask for cold water wash or low heat dryer?

You can ask. Just don't expect to get it.

They take all the clothes sent to the laundry, tag them and put them in big washers/dryers with other people's items to be processed. Separating out "special" items isn't something that's usually done.
