ok, so this is our first trip staying onsite, maybe this is a silly question but,
are there laundry facilities at the RPR or do you have to send it out?
thanks for any replies, we are leaving on thursday am, and I need to know how much to pack!!!

You can do it yourself. Washers and dryers are $2 each. You can also have RPR do it for you at a high price.

This is not a silly question to me! I hate packing dirty clothes so it was one of the first questions I asked when I got there last week! :p

I did a load the night before we left and the washers and dryers are extremely efficient and new, as is the hotel. I put the clothes in the washer than had dinner at the Island restaurant right across the way in Tower 1 and when I was finished my laundry was! :teeth:

Hmmmm..... There is no way I will be able to avoid doing laundry, so would it be worth it to drag my stuff over to RPR or HRH and spend time at one of the pools while doing laundry? We are staying at PBH, do they have laundry facilities? Finally, how far from the pools are the washing machines?

PBH does not have laundry facilities. I just came back from HRH and there were only two washers and two dryers on floor 2 and floor 4. There was some competition for those as the hotel was sold out. 600 rooms?!? A woman was over from PBH with a ton of laundry, and she was going back and forth between the two floors doing it. cost was $1.75 to wash and $1.75 to dry. Loads took awhile.

Shpedly, do you think they had any more washers around? I know you didn't go floor to floor checking, or was that it? Seems like such a small amount for that size hotel. I know I'll be washing at least once a day to keep up with it, don't want to bring it home with me.

I asked at star services and that is all they had. Bear in mind this is a hotel that would like to make money from you. They would much rather people use their in house service for big bucks. This hotel also doesn't have vending machines in the hope you'll raid the mini bar for big bucks too. That is probably the motivation behind PBH not having washers and dryers at all; that people would just use their laundry service, because PBH looks to be a larger hotel even than HRH.

I guess I'll have to wake up at my usual early time to beat the rush. Don't like waiting in line to do laundry. Any idea what time things open up to get some coffee?

You can get coffee at around 7 am, but your room should have a coffee pot for you to make your own.

It being a nice hotel, I imagine they have coffee, sugar, creamer in the room as well?

Yes, they do.

I'm still a little miffed about the laundry situation at PBH. I just booked them for 4 days after staying at a condo with a W/D in the unit. I should go to the condo last!

Does anyone know of a decent laundrimate (yes I know, I can't spell it) off site? I'd rather spend a couple of hours doing laundry using a couple of machines at once and get it over and done with.

Robin, that's great you're going back! When is your next trip?

I can only imagine your wash load with that big of a family! Mine is rough with one child!

I go back the end of May. I need a vacation.

you can go to yellowpages.com and search for laundry in orlando by type of business and then select coin operated laundry from the list and it will give you 33 businesses. I am going to try and seach the streets and see where they are located but maybe someone would recongnize one of them as being close by. My luck I would select the one over in the "hood". LOL

Just back from HRH. We had a terrible time trying to secure washing machines. It was quite funny on one day though. We just got back from lunch and my dh said he would check to see if any machines were available. He came back up and said two out of the two were available and got a head start as I was loading a second bag with clothes. Well he is up ahead of me almost to the elevators and out come 3 teenagers, one girl and two boys with bags of laundry. They are quickly closing in on my dh and they all get to the elevators at the same time. We all pile in and they now have their radar on his bag of laundry. My husband basically blocked the door, knowing what they had in mind. The girl was next to me and she was staring at the boys and pointing to the bag in his hand and making running motions. The elevator stopped at the 4th floor and one of the boys got off and ran onto another elevator thinking he could beat the one we were on. Ours stopped at the second floor and my husband took off down the hallway and beat them. I figure, we were there first in the hallway, so beating them was all that mattered at that point. We get inside and wouldn't you know it the change machine was out. This, after both 4th floor machines were broken! Luckly we had change left from the last time we did laundry. That was probably the worst thing that happened while we were there. One of the other laundry days my husband said he was speaking with someone staying at the Portofino who came over to do their laundry. It just doesn't make sense, 4 machines for 2 hotels.

just got back, here's the laundry update LOL
Had no trouble doing wash on the trip, 2 different times there was always a machine free. I used the laundry outside tower 1 entrance, its right by the pool.
Met a lovely woman from the UK over the folding... no matter if you are on holiday, can never escape from the washing.....

What floor was that on? Did we possibly miss some empty machines? You're right about not escaping the duties of laundry. Luckily, my DH usually helps out on vacation. I met some lovely tourists from the UK while at US/IOA and HRH. Such gracious and kind people!

I know bbchurch was going to see if there were any laudramats around Universal Studios. Having stayed at the Portofino last year, I know what a pain it is to do laundry. Was bbchurch or anyone successful at finding a nearyby laundry? It would be really great if I could find one that has drop-off service.

Sorry it is taking so long to reply. It is extremely difficult to find laundry mat locations in Orlando when you live in Arkansas!!!!
Anyway..I am still searching through road maps both on computer and on paper. (orlando is an exremely spread out place!) I am trying to find one as close as possible to UO. But I also want to make sure it isn't in the "hood"
Here is the only one I can comfirm for now it is located on Sand Lake Rd just past the Florida Mall

SANDLAKE ROAD MAYTAG LAUNDRY
(407) 438-8911
811 SAND LAKE RD
ORLANDO, FL

Again I found the listing on yellowpages.com if anyone else would like to join in the hunt.
It would be nice to find someone from orlando to help.. but if not I will be there in about 4 weeks and I promise to drive around until I find at least two more places okay!
