Laundry Tips for the Resorts?

Our last trip was Oct. '10 and we stayed for almost two weeks. This was the longest vacation I've ever taken and the only one long enough to require us to do laundry.....a part of vacation I despised! LOL We stayed at Pop but are thinking of maybe staying at one of the Allstar resorts this year.

Can anyone give me any tips on making laundry go smoother? I chose our one off day to do all our laundry midway through and maybe that was the problem? We had sooo much at that point! This time around we'll have an infant a little over a year old, so I'm sure that means wayyyyy more laundry this time! We took the Purex sheets that are detergent/softener in one, had plenty of coins......but we were so far away from any laundry facility and toting all that laundry, waiting on it to finish was just not fun! LOL Not that laundry is supposed to be fun, I realize!

But do any of you have tips for making it feel a little less like work?

We always put the dirty clothes in a bag then put them in our luggage to wheel over ....you can pre-sort them before you get there. After just pack 'em back in the suitcase and you are done...easy peasy.

I liked to go in the evening when the hubby had the kids in the room. At the All star you can even take a dip in the pool as the laundry building is right beside it. They also have evening movies so you can watch the film....read or plan for the next day.

We learned our lesson the first time too and did less clothes more frequently. It did seem like less of a chore but I did find things dried better with a smaller load.

A necessary evil ..... unfortunately:laundy:

We always do laundry mid vacay. Generally, we stay for 12 or more days so it is required.

The beauty of going to the laundry room is that you can do 4 loads all at once. It will only take about 75 minutes.

As the PP mentioned....do it while hanging out at the pool or while the evening movie is on. Make it quiet time by yourself while hubby has the kiddos....grab a fruity cocktail and put your feet up with a book.

The wheeled suitcase is a great idea. We bring a mesh pop up hamper from the dollar store that we keep the dirties in and then have it to carry to the laundry room.

There really is no 'great way' of doing it. Personally, I don't see it as any big deal so perhaps it's all about mental attitiude.

It's unfortunate that at the values the laundry can be on the opposite side of the resort from your room. Just another reason why I like the mods- at CBR or POR our laundry was located nearby at the quiet pool.

Anyway, as the PP said, you do have things to help pass the time- swimming or watching a movie. I bring my travel journal with me and spend part of the time writing. Or I bring a book and read (Yes, I still use actual paper books:lmao:). Occasionally I'll bring the laptop and review and perhaps edit some of the photos that we took that day. I usually do laundry on our down day, but occasionally have done it in the evening if we return to the resort early enough. And if the laundry isn't full of people I've been able to get 3 loads done at once, which is a bonus.

I agree with everyone else. The quiet pools at POR has the laundry facility right there beside the buildings (not sure about the Bayou section) I swam and did the laundry while they rented a syracer. I brought my own stuff and made sure I had a roll of quarters. As we go on the days I move all the dirty clothes to one suitcase and roll that puppy down to the laudry. Then I can repack everything when I am done. However I almost left our suits in the dryers cuz we decided to swim the morning we were leaving! Thank goodness my 10 year old remebered!!!!

As PP's stated, that is what is great about the mods is that there is a laundry room right by every quiet pool. It is nice to take a book, lay by the pool, while you are doing laundry.

You can also go early evening, while people are still at late dining and get one load done every couple of days.
