Laundry experts--need help with a grease stain

At least I'm pretty sure it's a grease stain. Not sure where it came from but my best guess is my son's bike. It's on a pair of cotton khakik pants. I've soaked it in Oxy Clean and washed it several times. I've even put Dawn detergent on it and washed it. Most of it has come out and the remaining bit has faded. They have not gone through the dryer. Is there something else I could try?

I swear by Spray N Wash Stain Stick. It has gotten out every single stain I've encountered since I discovered it (including the one inspired by my 'Wresting an 18 pound cat' thread!).

I have even used it to get stains out that have gone through the dryer and still been there.

I have never done this AFTER it has already gone through the wash, so not sure if it is helpful now, but putting baby powder on the grease will "soak" some of it up. You do this for like a day before washing, then brush off the powder and I then put Era detergent on the spot and wash it. Comes out for me everytime.

Try a little pine-sol just rub it right onto the stain,let it sit for a few minutes then using a toothbrush rub it into the fibers (I usually scrub on both sides)the toothbrush really works to get the deep stains out and the pinesol works wonders on grease!! Plus its safe on clothes!

I use baby shampoo, works wonders, also a grease cutting dish soap, but make sure it is not antibacterial or has bleach in it.

I use Lestoil for grease and grass stains. Its thick and it works well. Just rub it in.

We use lestoil as well. Sometimes that goo gone stuff works as well.

If nothing else works, this will, but it's going to take some elbow grease on your part since you've already placed them in the dryer. Get some Simple Green and put a little on the spot and rub it till the spots disappear. I'll also scratch it with my nail and it seems to help too. Keep applying the Simple Green until the spot is completely gone. I doubt it will come out in the wash regardless of what you use at this point. It's going to take lots of effort on your part, but you can get it out. My son gets bike grease on his pants all the time and he wears lots of khaki colored pants.

Ok, I will try baby shampoo next because I have that. But I have no idea what lestoil or simple green are. I have goo gone too but isn't that greasy? I would be afraid it would make it worse. And N. Bailey, they have NOT gone through the dryer yet. Hopefully something else will work. Possibly elbow grease because it has faded a lot. Thanks everyone!

Lestoil is a heavy yellow in color concentrate that is good on grease.

Basin makes a bar of soap called Dr. Spot . I haven't used it on that particular type of grease, but it does take out the grease spots from spilled food on clothing. It is the only stuff I have found to be able to save a few of my shirts. It may take 2-3 washings but it works really well.

I do the Dawn thing but it takes several times. I pour it directly on the stain as well. DH works in a taconite mine so his clothes are regularly filled with grease and other gross things. I let the Dawn soak in overnight and have found the newer "styles" of Dawn don't work quite as well as the original scented one. Why that is I will never know! LOL

since you didnt dry them yet... I would soak the area real wet and put oxy clean on it, but the trick is to rub it in good AND let it sit that way over night-soaking wet in that area (oxy takes time to react), then wash again. Sometimes it takes a couple times. I did this with blood and it came out the 2nd time. I use dawn and oxy clean and never failed! Oh and the powder oxy, not the spray! Best of luck.

I know a few mechanics wives and they swear by this stuff. It's really the best product I've found for grease, but it does take some elbow grease on occasion too. I think it's too expensive to add X amount to each load of laundry. I prefer to use it as needed, unlike the woman I've mentioned above. I might feel differently if my husband was a mechanic though.

Some might not agree with me, but I try to stay away from putting dish liquid directly on a stain because I think on certain materials it does fade the clothing in that one area. Simple Green has never faded the fabric anytime I've ever used it.
