For our first family trip we went in April of this year. The first half of our trip was so cold we were in sweatshirts and jeans half the time! Then it got really hot the second half and we were happy with that. :-)

What I'm wondering is what the weather and crowds are like the last week in September/first week in October. Also, is MNSSHP an experience we should seek out? My DS will be 11 (almost 12) and DD will be 10.

Thanks for any info!

Subscribing. We're going the same exact time! :wizard:

Also, had to add that I live in the same town as you. I have two sons - one is 10 and the other is almost 8. :goodvibes

I see you are going this year. We're planning our trip for next year since we already went earlier this year. I'm going to PM you. That's such a coincidence that you live in the same town!

Ohhhhhh, you're going next year. Got it. I just responded to your PM and thought you still meant this year. Sorry! :flower3:

It can be extremely hot and humid in early October (I've gone twice that time of year). But there's no way to know - weather is so unpredictable!

We went in October 2005 during Hurricane Wilma. The first two days we were there (before the hurricane went through) -- hot and very humid. After the storm went through - mid-70s and not humid at all! You just can't tell.

We will be there at the same time too.
I just looked at the 15 day weather report on accuweather and although it is 15 days out but it looks like it will be a hot vacation. No winter clothes needed where we will be going. I am so glad because this is our first trip in 3 years that did not fall in the month of Feb which means packing for the warm and cold season because you just never know.
AKV here we come in 2 weeks & 16 hours but whose counting.

We usually go during that time period, and are returning October 8 - 13. Weather is warm, and showers and occasional storms can pop up regularly. We haven't had as much of the oppressive heat in October as in mid-September, but it's still shorts and tank tops weather. The evenings are warm.

We've found crowds to be manageable. Special events like the Food & Wine Festival and MNSSHP can pack them in, but you can plan for that.

Check out the Halloween party information on this board and allearsnet.com, and decide if MNSSHP sounds like your kind of thing. I suspect your kids will enjoy it, but it is a separate, hard ticket event. :thumbsup2

We are going in 2 wks and (i'd be on the plane already), beside the Food and Wine Fest. How are the crowd's in the other parks?

It really varies from year to year. It could be hot and humid, or very pleasant. I go that time nearly every trip, and it has really run the gamut.

If I were you, I'd check the extended forecast about three days before your trip to see what the weather will be like. Check weather.com's hour-by-hour forecast - it's great information, you can tell if it's likely to cool down significantly in the evening.

so ive been lurking around here for a while n i guess i oughta start posting 1 of these days.

this upcoming trip i have is my 6th and the last 2 and my upcoming have been early october. decent weather unless a hurricane/tstorm decides to blow through.
im pretty sure rest of my trips i plan will be during this time of the year also. i just cant handle the heat of the spring/summer i guess. the trip last year right at right at halloween was probably my favorite of all time outside possible being there on the 4th of july(except for that dreadful heat).
been impossible to make it down there for christmas or new years as im a retail store manager. company cuts off vacations nov-dec so i doubt it'll happen anytime soon.

this year i planned a somewhat last minute trip so im a little mad i couldnt squeeze into le cellier. pretty booked for the month i think. but still managed to get a few of my fav's scheduled
got that expedition everest challenge going on that weekend along with wdwcelebrations event

As far as crowds go, that is a great time to go. We are going October 3 and the weather is nice. I looked on Weather.com and the averate high in September is 90 and average low is 72. For October the average high is 85 and the average low is 65.

I think the temperatures at that time are very nice. Not extreamly hot and you can still swim. Hope that helps.

We went last October 5 - 13. The weather was great. In the 80's and not that humid. We went before in late May and the humidity was terrible, especially for us from Colorado where we have NO humidity.

October was great, we wore shorts all day and night, no sweatshirts. We did the water parks and the pool at night after the parks.

As far as crowds go, the weekdays were fine, very little crowds. The weekends were much more busy, especially EPOCT - World Showcase; Future world wasn't that bad.

AK was really crowded on a Sunday. That park is a little small, so seemed even more crowded. It was actually hard to even walk around, there were people everywhere.

MK was also a little crowded on Saturday.

As long as you prepare for the crowds on the weekend, and try to get a lot in on the weekdays, you should be fine.

I just went during the last week of September (this year) and it could not have been more perfect. Magic Kingdom on a Saturday? - no waits for anything and perfect weather -- 80ish and low humidity. Perfect park weather.

We just got back on 9-28-08. The days were hot but very managable. We liked to take a break midday, go back to the resort and refresh. We have gone in March and Sept. and Oct. and like Oct. the best. Plus I like not having to pack any jeans or sweatshirts......with the airline weight and bag limits.....I was able to take more clothes and shoes (he he he). We lived in shorts, Tshirts and sandals. Plus more room in the luggage for souveniers.
We stayed at the FQ, as usual, and I am an early riser. I loved going down to the food court around 6:30am for my coffee, then taking a walk around the resort. The mornings are warm and beautiful along the river.

we jsut returned - we were there from sept 27 to oct 7 - it was like a ghost town no long waits - the weather was awesome - since you are also from nepa you will appreciate the weather - it was warm but not as bad as some of our august days.

Thank you both! We have almost decided on 19-26 Sept 2009. So your posts are good news for us. I'm praying if we go around that time we won't have to worry too much about hurricaines. As I've mentioned we went in April of this year when the weather was supposed to be mild, but nice and we ended up starting our trip at the end of a cold spell. boy were we chilly!

Thank you to everyone who is replying. I really appreciate it!!
