Late January / Peak Season?

I called a little while ago to reserve our next Fort trip. As always, our favorite time of year, late January, is what we're planning. It's a slow time there, usually warm, and I'm not doing too much landscaping in January here in NC. The other advantage is it's always been cheap.

When we went in January, 2006 and January, 2008, I remember the preferred rates were always in the upper $50/night range. Well you can imagine my surprise when the Disney rep just told me late January to early February is $112.50/night for preferred. When I said "huh", she said it was peak season there.

I went ahead and reserved the ten night stay with a one day deposit. But is this correct or do they just quote the peak rates since the 2011 rates aren't determined yet? :confused3

Yes, that's what we discovered when booking January 2011. They wanted a very large deposit - don't remember but close to $100 - for a full hookup site. I questioned that large a deposit because I have never paid that much before and we always go during the value season. I was told that since the 2011 rates have not been released, they were charging peak season rates for the entire year until they are released. This is the first year that they have required it, they usually go by the rate season of the previous years. Guess that's one way to get alittle more money upfront and earn some interest off it for 500 days.

Yes, that's exactly what they do. I was charged a bit over a hudred dollars for a deposit for the first week in February, and I think around August, September, I received a revised confirmation with rates in the mid-50's...much better! Same thing now...I reserved 2/6-2/16 and my deposit was over a hundred. And it better drop

Thanks rapriebe and moseycat.

That's what I was hoping for. It was the actual fact that she specifically told me that was "peak season". I think she must not have known better, just reading from a computer screen.

Anyway, she told me (like you folks have) that the 2011 rates will probably come out around August. We'll keep saving our money until then.

Save for the worst. Hope for the best. If there's any money leftover, it'll just go in the fuel tank. :rolleyes1
