late check-out

I know you can request late check-out at non-DVC resorts, but can you request this for DVC resorts?
(We're renting points, so we don't know all the ins and outs yet--I say "yet" `cuz we're thinking about buying!)

Late check-out is not available at DVC resorts. At least not when I've requested it.

I was at OKW a few weeks ago and asked for a late check out. My roommate had just gotten in from the West Coast on a late flight the night before we had to check out, and really wanted to sleep in. (11 am Florida time equals 8 am West Coast time!)

I was told no; we had to be out of the room promptly at 11 am.

I was on another DVC board somewhere and remember seeing the same question. One of the responses there was that the member guest called up and informed the CM that he was checking out late. He didn't ask if it was okay and he just checked out late without a problem. Is it written anywhere that there is no late check out allowed? I almost always request a late check-out. I have read here that it is not allowed.

I don't know that it is "written", but it is policy. DVC resorts already have a later check-in...late check outs can raise our dues if they have to hire more housekeeping staff to get the rooms ready "on-time", or you may be delaying another DVC member waiting to check-in.

Actually it is a written policy, It's been in the VM at least once. It never hurts to ask but your chances are slim.

The "no late check-out" policy has been raised several times on the DVC Member Site and in other mailings. Here's the item from the Fall 2002 Vacation Magic in response to the question "Do Disney Vacation Club Resorts offer early check-in and late check-out?"

Paraphrasing check-in: You can check-in anytime on arrival day. The room may not be ready until after 4:00 p.m. Bell services will take your luggage.

Actual check-out paragraph:

Late check-outs are not available in order to ensure that all rooms are ready for incoming Members and Guests, check-out is by 11:00 a.m. If you'd like to stay and enjoy the resort on your day of departure, simply check out of your room by 11:00 a.m. and leave your luggage with the bell services staff until it's time to leave. For the consideration of all Guests and our busy housekeeping staff, please adhere to these time frames.

You also helped with a question I didn't ask. I originally thought check out was 11 A.M., but the person we're renting from mentioned 10. Must have been a typo. So in a way, I guess we are getting late check out!

A limited number of late check-outs were available when Old Key West first opened.....we received one for 1:00 p.m. on two occasions. However, that was back in '93-'95; we haven't been able to obtain one since and we plan accordingly.
