Late check out?

Is it possible to get a late check out when staying at DVC? We have a 8:30 pm flight, which makes for a long time without a room.

Thanks

No late check out with DVC. It takes longer to get the villas cleaned. You could add the extra day to your reservation and just check out early.

You can leave your bags with bell services and then go to a park, or you can go to a pool and then change before your flight. The DVC pools have nice changing rooms.

We almost never leave before 11 (OK, 11:15) and then we like to swim and have a nice meal.

As far as I can find NONE of the DVC pools have hairdryers. So if like me you you want to dry your hair at the pool before heading to the airport, pack a small hairdryer. (I have one that is TEENY that I use for things like this. )

We always fly back at 7 pm. We leave our hotel at 11, put our bags in the trunk of our rental, and head to a park. We usually try to have a late lunch reservation, and try to enjoy ourselves despite the fact it's our last day at WDW!
Once in June, we spent the entire day at Stormalong Bay, then showered in the health club.

Although DVC doesn't allow late check-outs for convenience, they've been known to bend the rules. One time, our room wasn't ready by 3:00. The family before us had been given late check-out. I thought I'd heard wrong, but it turns out that there was a sick child in the family. Under those circumstances I thought it was nice of DVC to make the exception.

The official policy is that it doesn't happen and people don't post that it happens....... it's that rare, if it ever happens. I've been reading these boards almost daily since 1999 and have been a DVC member since 2001 and can't recall seeing one post about being granted late checkout.

DVC properties are managed separately from other WDW resorts and are totally different from the other resorts in this practice. Even when I stayed at the non-DVC resorts (where I've usually been granted late checkout), the policy used to be to extend check out to 12 noon or 1 PM without a charge, but we were told it would be 1/2 the cost of the room if it's a few hours longer, and full cost of the room if it's beyond 3 PM. Swan and Dolphin used to offer 4 PM check out as a perk for AAA and to Starwoods Perferred Guest members BASED ON AVAILABILITY. We've been denied late check out there during busy times but were offered a hospitality room to change in.

Thanks for the suggestions. My DH and I had thought of spending the day at the pool, but wondered where we'd change the family before the airport. Do all of the pools have changing rooms? (we're staying at WL).

Thanks again.

Oh, yes, WL/VWL have changing rooms! When you're at the main pool and face the lobby, there's restrooms to the left, sort of tucked in the corner of the building by an entrance into the wing. Don't know if there's a shower or not. The quick service food is to the right, and rest rooms and laundry room are just beyond that.

VWL has an exit to the quiet pool that goes by the health club. I've honestly never been in the health club, but I'd wonder if guests could go in there to shower and change. I'm pretty sure DVC members have access at no charge, but can't remember if WL guests have to pay or not. Just outside the health club, however, is a very large single bathroom that could accomodate multiple people to change..... no shower there, but there's rinse-off showers by the pool. Ask at the Lodge about health club access and what they recommend. There could be showers that I'm not aware of. Hope you have a great trip!

One time we got a one hour late checkout. As we were packing the car it started to rain (pour). We had to stop packing the few things left. It stopped a little before 11 and the front desk said no problem just get out as soon as you can. We finished packing fast, took super fast showers (when you move fast down there you sweat) and got out.

We have been able to use the health clubs at both VWL and BCV after check out. I do think there were hair dryers in each. Both times that I've used those facilities, I was the only one doing so, and the facilities were very clean and kept up.

1) DVC and non-DVC can use the health club to change for the flight.
2) This happens VERY frequently.

Carol,
At SSR there are two restrooms next to the high rock springs pool. There is just a regular old bathroom on one side, but on the other side you can enter the spa facilities on the bottom floor from the outside walkway. Several CM's told me it was fine for pool guests to use these restrooms. They have hairdryers, bodywash, shampoo, lotion, etc. Very nice! :thumbsup2
