On a previous visit we saw Animal Kingdom for the first time and were disappointed in the safari - not many animals were active. I know early morning is best, but how about late afternoon in December? we are having dinner at Boma and would like to spend the afternoon at AK to save on transportation time. Is early morning the only time to see much activity? Thanks in advance.

4 weeks 'til WDW

While at WDW about 2 weeks ago, we went on the safari on 2 different days--3 times each. This due to being the favorite of a young traveler. The first day earlier trips, the 2nd day last trips of the day. I must say on each and every trip we saw different animals active/not active. Each time it seemed we saw something "special", we saw animals very up close and personal one trip and didnt even see or hear mention of them the next trip. On our last trip we were on a tour with only a few people, it was the guides last drive, so she gave us a little more info. Most of the animals are brought in for the night, and many were more active b/c they knew it was about time to go in and be fed.

When it is cooler outside, the animals are more active during the afternoon. They don't have to find a shady spot to sit down to be cool. However since they do like routines, they may want to lie down for a nap or to relax. However based on our experience, there are generally the same amount of animals on the safari in the afternoon during Dec, Jan, Feb and sometimes March.
