Late 70's early 80's girls

I just asked my brother (who's 3 years younger than I am) about what guys wore in the '80s, and he said, "Well, in the '80s, I wore very little," referring to an incident during his streaking phase when he was about 3 or so when I left for school but forgot my lunchbox. Never fear, though, because Jeff hand-delivered it to me at the bus stop...stark naked. Oh, and the bus stop was at least 500 yards from the house. I turned around when I heard the yelling and saw little naked Jeff sprinting toward me, with my mom in hot pursuit. :rotfl:

Seriously, though, he seconded the preppy thing.

OMG, that reminds me...I totally have pics of me in those at the Magic Kingdom in probably 1982-3. Had high tube socks with them and everything. I was HOT. :rotfl:

Me too!!! I recently found pics of my bff and I when we went to WDW in '82.:scared1: My kids were cracking up!! I had on yellow short-shorts with the white stripe and some horrific t-shirt....TUCKED IN..and the infamous high striped tube socks with my Nikes . That was a whole 'nother story... I wanted Nikes so bad. Blue ones with a yellow swoosh. Mom wouldn't spend that much on sneakers though. One day I came home and she ws all excited b/c she had a suprise for me. I opened the box and in it was Nikes allright....YELLOW ONES W/ A BLUE SWOOSH:lmao: Oh the horror! I wore them though b/c she was so pleased with herself:love:

Someone mentioned baby sitting. How much did y'all make an hour. In the mid/late 70's I made 80 cents to a dollar an hour.

The neighbor across the street was the 80 cents an hour folks. One evening I sat till 1:30 am, and her husband paid a bit more then 80 cents. I thought it was a small bonus because of the extra late hours. Wife asked me to come over tomorrow morning so she could grocery shop. Imagine my shock when she asked me to be over at 7am so she could get her shopping out of the way.

Then imagine my shock when she returned home from shopping and announced that she discovered her husband had overpaid me the night before, so we'll just call this even. :scared1::rotfl2:

Wow, I think that might've been the last time I chose to sit for those people! I don't remember how much I got paid when I sat...I want to say it was around $5 an hour, but I could be overestimating on that. I also did respite care through an agency for families who had disabled kids, which was a lot of fun and paid more; I enjoyed that more than regular babysitting and did it throughout high school and into college, once I moved back home.

Speaking of boys' attire, does anyone remember the skinny leather (pleather) ties and the Cappizzo shoes? :rotfl:

I can totally remember my worst 80's look. I wore this huge, oversized satin looking pink shirt with a short paisley printed skirt. To complete the look, I had clear jelly shoes worn with ankle socks that had giant lace ruffles (think Toddlers & Tiaras socks). Those were some fun times though.

How about Halloween costumes? I was "punk rocker" for 3 years straight!

Were Guess Jeans late 80's/early 90's. I remember getting in a huge fight with my Mother over some Guess Jeans. I remember also having button fly jeans.

Oh, I had to have Guess, too. And, button fly jeans were the most inconvenient thing ever!
Scrunchies, anyone? I work with a woman who still wears- coordinated with her outfits!

I was sad when scrunchies went out. I had a massive collection of the cutest ones that matched every outfit I owned. I did keep one that my mom got me in Hawaii, though...hot pink with hibiscuses on it. It was way too cute to toss. :goodvibes

Loved my Guess jeans! I remember being SO excited when, after a life-threatening allergic reaction to a sulfa drug, I'd lost enough weight to fit into a pair I'd been coveting forever at a local store. Yes, I did almost die, but I was able to find a silver lining! :rotfl:

Ok, I will admit that I still have a bag of colorful scrunchies in the house. I don't wear them in public, but they are great for putting up your hair in a bun around the house.

I was just checking my Twitter and saw that VH1 has released an "I Love the '80s" trivia app for the iPhone. I'm downloading it now. :cool1:
