We are a family doing our first real trip to Disney hopefully next year. We have 3 kids, currently 5, 2, and 1. I have my heart set on staying at the Fort as we want a really relaxing vacation where we can have lots of space (renting a camper). My husband HATES crowds, lines, and heat, so I'm really trying to find the sweet spot where it can be relaxing and enjoyable for all.
We are currently booked the last week of April 2016. Warm enough to swim, spring break crowds have cleared out, enough time to save up the cash to go. But...I keep hearing how great the Fort is over Halloween. I know time is running out to book, but I could still get a site for the week covering Halloween if I hurry (doing a Sunday to Sunday stay). Right now, crowd calendars look great for that week, I'm assuming it would still be warm enough to swim? And the kids would love the decorations and the trick or treating.
Downside to switching though is the Fort could be crazy (read that in the other post) over Halloween and possibly the whole week? And our 2 year old will be 3 by then and we will have to buy him a ticket. The campsite is slightly cheaper though and we would have more time to save so overall it wouldn't be terrible. Also, a year seems like sooo far away, I really hoped to go earlier!
Anyone can sway me one way or the other?

If DH hates crowds and lines, Halloween is not the time to go. I would opt for a first trip in April then consider a future trip at Halloween.

If you want to avoid crowds April is going to be a better option for you. Definitely look into getting no fastpasses as well for the days you do any parks. Halloween is such a fun time though in the fort as well as the parks. Also by going Halloween to November you will see Halloween decorations and Christmas.

We normally go the 2nd week of February. The weather stays dry (no rain) & not a large crowd. But we do not have children in school. This year we went mid April for 2 weeks. The weather was crazy. Hot, them cold & lots of rain, but no crowds. We really enjoyed when we arrived the day before Thanksgiving & stayed 2 weeks. The Sat after Thanksgiving started to be less crowded. What the heck any time is good as long as you are at the FORT!!
