I'm sure I could if I applied, but I just don't have the money to relocate and Disney won't pay relocation expenses for a minimum wage entry level employee.

I'm going to pay the bills I have, then start saving to move out as well as paying Dad off. I want to be the heck out of this house by my next birthday.

In Illinois, it's $8.25. In Florida, it's the federal minimum wage, which is $7.25.

The only people who get that much at WDW are characters, at least to start. I'm too fat to be a character. I'd be a medical liability.

Yeah, naturally. I'm just tired. I was asking for $10-12 an hour, which is what I was getting at my last job, but no one will give me that, so I lowered it to minimum wage.

There was one year that we travelled on holiday with my younger brother. He bought a Timberland leather jacket on sale and paid $150 for it. We came home and 3 months later, that jacket was in the stores here. It retailed at $1500. He pretty much justified his plane ticket just on that jacket alone!

Smaller population. And traditionally Australia had high import duty into the country.

You should try buying books here. There is a difference of somewhere between 100 - 150 %. But the retail landscape in Oz is changing. We're having quite a few chains shut down. Borders has completely gone out of business in the last 2 months and no longer trades in Australia.

With the high Australian dollar, people are shopping on-line and even with the shipping fees, it is MUCH cheaper to buy on line. I've just bought a book that hasn't even been released in Australia. Shipping is costing me $12 because I chose the 2 - 3 week shipping option rather than 5 days ($25).

The book will still cost less than for me to wait for it to be released and then buy it here.

Most Aussies are buying books in bulk and shipping becomes cheaper on a per item basis. I just didn't have any other books I wanted.

Yup....as is buying a house. The average house costs over $650K in Victoria.

We don't have thanksgiving!

No, black friday does not exist. There used to be 2 major sales in Oz; after Christmas and in July/August.

Retail has hit the doldrums here in the last 6 - 12 months and they have been really trying to go on sale almost every 6 weeks. Problem is that no one seems to be spending right now.

Food prices have increased; gas, electricity and water bills are going up and up and up; housing (rent or mortgage) is expensive and people are concerned about things getting worse in Australia. We all still have jobs; unemployment is under 5%...but there is a fear that things could become bad real quick. So, everyone seems to be saving money rather than keeping on the consumerism binge.
