That's just nuts... :headache:

Well, I'm heading to bed. You ladies have a good night :)

Good night.

But I think you're starting to understand why I travel to the US and why I shop as much as I do there. Even a Disney t-shirt at $20 is cheaper than paying $45 for something similar here. Sure, you can get t-shirts as low as $10 in Oz....but when in Disney...and at $20, you would consider it too. ;)

Borders is going out of business here as well. Have you tried amazon for your books? they can be really cheap especially if they are used.

Yes. That's where I'm getting my books from at the moment. There...and the Book Depository.

Yup....as is buying a house. The average house costs over $650K in Victoria.

We don't have thanksgiving! :rotfl2:

No, black friday does not exist. There used to be 2 major sales in Oz; after Christmas and in July/August.

Retail has hit the doldrums here in the last 6 - 12 months and they have been really trying to go on sale almost every 6 weeks. Problem is that no one seems to be spending right now.

Food prices have increased; gas, electricity and water bills are going up and up and up; housing (rent or mortgage) is expensive and people are concerned about things getting worse in Australia. We all still have jobs; unemployment is under 5%...but there is a fear that things could become bad real quick. So, everyone seems to be saving money rather than keeping on the consumerism binge.

Well hopefully everything remains strong there. Housing here is quite cheap to purchase now. It seems it is starting to rise here slowly. It started here and it made a wave across the us.

Good night. I know on your DH e reader or kindle you can get books for free as well.

There's an app on the i-phone that you can then download books for free or for a nominal fee thereafter. I just still prefer the feel of paper and reading off paper rather than on a screen. I do enough screen reading at work that for recreational purposes, I much rather a physical book.

That's a good sign for the economy. If housing rises, then people start to think they are a little richer.

Yes it is a good sign, as the carpet cleaning business is very busy right now. That means people are moving. I hope to get another home someday and not stay in an apartment. It doesnt need to be big.

I'm also going to be logging off. We're going to a friend's for dinner tonight and it's nearly time to move.

Usnuz - Keep well and I hope to catch you sometime this weekend, if not tomorrow.

I am hoping that the mods won't close this thread tomorrow whilst I'm at work. I can only hope!

 Glad the business is working out! Keep well and catch you soon. DH is chafing to move.

HEY! I think I was the one who actually unearthed the ancient thread! skiingfast is just the one who did not budge from it's existence and the need to push it forward and continue the tradition!

:thumbsup2

But now I'm last her too!

I've been waiting for you to pop in with an appearance on that thread. Both you and Shuttergirl have remained rather silent on the topic :confused3....and then nearly choked on my tea when I read the response. Nearly started a fight myself....been way too quiet on the Aussie board. :rotfl2:

Theres a drink post? Just found out that I have two new grandchildren.

I didn't even know you had children!

Now I read later that the daughter is from Chris, but I didn't realize you had any kids!

Wonder how Alison's sale went....

The first part of the sale went well, but they were freakin' animals! :scared1: You wouldn't believe the state of the garage! We're going to be spending the next two days just putting it back together so that we can have the Saturday sale.

We did make some pretty good money. Back to work soon. Fran went to pick up the cleaning lady so that I could DIS and read my emails. I'm waiting for her to return with my coffee and McFood, then I have to feed the cats and start the day.

Glad to hear sale is at least going good. Oh yes I have two children from a prior marriage, my son will be 31 this year and my daughter passed away in 05 at the age of 25. Chris's daughter is 28 she has a boy and a girl.
