I have a 2 br reserved at BWV in just a few weeks but due to a last minute emergency the person going with me may not be able to travel. I may want to try to switch from the 2br to a studio or 1 br.
Will they let me keep the studio portion of the 2br with the difference in points going into holding? Or would I have to cancel the entire thing with those on a wait list getting them and I would have to settle for whatever studio or 1 br I can get at just a few weeks out --in other words, SSR here I come. (No offense to SSR fans. I know it is very nice but I was really looking forward to BWV.)
Thanks for the help.

If you booked it as a 2bdrm they will have to cancel it as a 2 bdrm. I don't think they have the ability to do what you said. And yes your points would go in to holding if you're within the 31 days. I hope everything works out and your friend is able to go :).

As long as you are within the 31 day mark already, you will end up with holding points if your new room requires fewer points. If you find out for sure that your friend can't come, I wonder if it would work to wait until you are within 7 days. Then there is no wait list. Maybe if you cancel at that point you could get just the studio or 1 bedroom part of the room. I have not tried this, just a thought.

It might work out that way and may be a good idea...I just ended up having something like that happen for some August dates.

I cancelled a SV studio at BLT so I could use those points to book a few December nights and then wanted to rebook the studio with borrowed points. There were no SV studios for August when I called so I figured I was going to be stuck with LV.

However, when we went to re-book, after I booked the December nights, the SV room I just cancelled was still there and I was able to get it back!!! I was thrilled.

That meant there were either no active wait lists yet for those dates..or, the computer didn't have enough time to snag it for wait lists.

The only drawback in waiting is that by 7 days out, there may be no 1 bedrooms or studios anywhere and the OP would be stuck with the 2 bedroom.

Thanks for the idea of waiting to within 7 days. I had not thought of the fact that the wait lists end at that point. By the time I know for sure if my friend can go it will be very close to 7 days anyway.

Best of luck that all works out for both you and your friend. :thumbsup2

Good luck. Have you called and checked on availability for a studio for your stay. I would be so curious to what is available, even though it changes constantly. I've been waitlisted for the BWV for Jan. 18-23 since the first day of the 7 month window (SV) and with only 9 days left, I'm pretty sure it isn't going to happen.

Generally no, they will not separate out the 2 components even if it's a lockoff. They will book a separate room and cancel your existing reservation subject to availability. The WL really doesn't have much impact on your situation.
