Last Minute resort discounts?

So we've got yourself in a situation where we're booking a last minute trip. I know that some people are going be really anti-that idea. No touring plan, no ADR. We're OK with that.

What we're wondering is if there's somewhere where we might get some sort of discount with booking last minute?

Right now we're looking at about 4-6 weeks out from when we would be going. But we also won't likely be booking for another week or two. Really -- we might more realistically be booking about two weeks before out departure.

We've got a health issue in our party so that's why we've been putting things off.

We'd prefer to stay on resort-- preferably a moderate.

Any advice on last minute trips or if there's some way to get a bit of a discount from sell-off rooms or flights or sites that are good for that sort of thing, it'd be much appreciated.

Right now, our impression is such things don't exist when it comes to staying on Disney. That we might do better with off-site. But then we get into the whole rental car and commuting, etc. and with the health issues in play, we think it'd be easier to just stay on-site and use Disney transport or taxis when necessary.

Orbitz. Code YESPLEASE. 15% off 2 nights or more. Works for Disney resorts. Must book by Aug. 9 for travel by 12/31/15.

If Orbitz has any rooms that also have the "last days of summer" discount (current Disney room-only offer for stays 8/15-10/3/15), you can stack this code on top of that offer. I booked a Yacht Club room in late September that was listed at 35% off of the rack rate and then got an additional 15% off of that by applying the code just last week. It was very surprising to get it since the room was for a weekend during the Food & Wine Festival.

If Orbitz doesn't have rooms with the "last days of summer" discount (about 15%-20% off for moderates), then check Disney's website for availability. You won't get that extra 15% off from the Orbitz code, but it would still be better than rack rate.

Lastly, consider whether purchasing an AP would make financial sense in order to take advantage of discounted rooms that are available to AP holders.

Wow. That sounds like a great discount. Will definitely look into it right away. Thank you!

Do you know if you can add the FD if you book through Orbitz? Or can you pay the extra and get DDP?

*Free* dining is no longer being offered by Disney. However, the point is moot, since Orbitz does not sell Disney packages. They book RO and sell tickets separately, if you wish to purchase from them. You cannot add a dining plan to those reservations, even if you want to pay for it.

However, if you book directly with Disney, you can add tickets and dining to any RO reservation in order to create a package.

Previously I had booked 2 rooms through Obitz using a different code. Yesterday I repriced those rooms using the Orbitz "yesplease" code and got an even better discount. That new discount code even beets the Disney offer currently available. Oh and I booked it through Ebates and got a cash back discount too.

Hmm. Maybe fore Canadians the FD offer is still available. I"m still seeing it listed on the Disney site. But this Orbitz price and booking RO looks like it would save us a bunch and then just pay for food OOP.

Can you use ME when you book RO through Orbitz? Or is that just for direct Disney bookings too?

You can use DME even if you booked through another party. The only thing that matters is that you are staying in a Disney resort.

This was super helpful. Thank you so much, Marionnette. We were starting to second-guess if we really wanted to put up the money for the repeat trip. This will help make the decision easier and the trip more affordable.
