We are in the process of purchasing an OKW contract which comes with 38 points that will need to be used by 9/30. They were banked from 2003 so it is my understanding that no more banking is allowed, so it is use them or lose them.

Anyway, our trip is planned for the 2nd week in June. We already got an exchange through II to OKW. If we do not use the points when we are down there in June, then we won't have another opportunity to do so. Our thoughts are to add a night at BWV or BCV, or really anywhere. We will be checking out of our exchange on a Saturday and heading to Fort Lauderdale for a few days, so I thought instead of adding Sat. night, go to the beach, then head back to Vero Beach or Orlando the day before our flight home. We go home on a Thursday, so Wed night points would be less than a Sat. nights points. The problem is that nothing can be reserved until we close around 5/15. I also thought that I wouldn't want to make the reservation until we were possibly down there in case we were having a real great time in Fort Lauderdale and just wanted to stay there. ALthough we are beach people and if we can't go in the water due the current shark problems, then I would really rather be at a pool at Disney or even Vero Beach (is that pool nice?) rather than a regular time share in Fort Lauderdale (We have the timeshare in Fort Lauderdale until Sat even though we are flying home on Thursday.

I also thought about renting the points out, but if I understand this correctly, the points can not be transferred, but I can make a reservation for someone?

Anyway, to sum up my rambling....has anyone had success calling member services a day or two in advance and getting a reservation of a 1 bedroom during early June?

Thanks.
Lisa :)

I'm not sure what the possibility would be....but, one thing to your advantage would be that the waitlist at the resorts cancels 31 days before arrival. So, about the time you are closing would be a good time. You can call and get on the "new" waitlist when you close, and if there were a lot of people in front of you...there no longer would be (unless everyone else also "relisted" on the waitlist). Just remember, at 7 days out, ALL waitlists (even the 30 day one) are cancelled, so at that point you would have to call every day (maybe even a couple of times a day) to check availability.

Good luck,

Maybe you could use your points at a Disney hotel instead of a DVC resort.

Deb,
I thought of that, but don't you have to make those reservations at 60 days due to the coinverting the points to cash thing? I am new to this so I could be wrong. A night on the monorail or Animal Kingdom Lodge would be great.

You can't book a non-DVC resort within 60 days of the end of your Use Year. Since you apparently have an October UY, you'd have to book by approx. August 1st, which doesn't appear to be a problem given your June travel dates.

Just to clarify, you can stay at non-DVC anytime, you just have to make the reservation itself more than 60 days before the end of the UY.

Thanks. I thought it was 60 days from the reservation date, not the use year end date....

That may work real well for us.
