is today. I always have mixed feelings. I'll be happy not to have to get up tomorrow at 5 a.m., but I will miss my kindergarteners :(. They are soooooo ready for first grade:thumbsup2. For the past few weeks, whenever we walk past the first grade classroom they would look in wistfully and ask me when they could go to first grade. My answer was always the same-it's like a hotel, you can't check-in until the current occupants leave. Today at 3:00 when we walk by I can tell them that they are now officially first graders :).

I have mixed feelings about the last day, too. I am enjoying the start of week three of my vacation, though. Enjoy your break. :goodvibes

My last day is Thursday. Today was our last full day and the rest of the week is half days.

We got out a month ago today and are well into our summer. The last day of school used to feel strange to me when I was a new teacher. Everything was cleaned up and packed away. The bulletin boards were empty, the desks/tables all cleaned up and the chairs were stacked in the corner. That anticeptic look used to make me feel strange. I remember I used to sit back after the kids left and think about everything that went on in the classroom that year, and now (as I sat there), it was all washed away and a new group would be coming in a few short months.

Now that I'm a "well-seasoned" teacher, I just clean up and get the heck out of Dodge after the kids leave! LOL It is still a bit strange turning out the lights and locking the door, but summers always go by sooo fast, so it's not long before I'm walking back in and starting to get things set up again.

Have a great summer!

When teachers love what they do, I think that often the last day is harder on them than it is on the students..

You sound like a great teacher..:lovestruc

Aww, I can imagine the last day was kind of hard (even if you are ready for summer!). I am a teacher too and while I didn't have my own classroom this year I was lucky enough to get a long-term job at one school at the beginning of the year and then was able to sub pretty much every day there until the end of the year. On the last day I went into one of the first grade rooms (I was the building sub for the last couple weeks) just to help them finish cleaning desks, etc. Now, this was a REALLY difficult class...a lot of the kids just did not get along with each other :sad2: and the teacher kept telling me how she was so ready for the year to end. Well, as the day was winding down, she started to get teary eyed. Then, I kid you not, half of the kids started crying too because they were going to miss her so much! :goodvibes It was so sweet I started getting a little misty-eyed myself.

This was my first year teaching Kindergarten and I was a bit teary as they hugged me goodbye last Wednesday. I am officially on break now, as we h ad our last meetings today. I am thrilled to be on break, but im goign to miss my kids!
