One more day til HHI!!! :yay: One more quick question--
I know I've had so many questions about restaurants, but I've never been to HHI before. I hate to pay a lot for a meal and be disappointed. :sad2: We are there for only 4 nights. Breakfast and lunch will be in the room, and we will eat out for dinner. One of the nights will be casual, probably Giuseppi's. We are also planning on doing the BBQ at the resort Tuesday night. That leaves 2 nights, and I'm having a hard time deciding!!! My sons want to do Kurama since they love Japanese. My husband wants to do Alligator Grille because he likes alligator, but he is also allergic to shellfish, so it scares me to go there. Salty Dog sounds neat, but I've read some bad reviews on their food. I've been reading some about Dye's Gullah Fixin's which sounds great, but I can't find a menu on-line so I'm not sure. I don't want to eat anywhere really fancy; we have kids and plan on dressing down.

Which 2 restaurants would you choose???

Skip Salty Dog (or stick with buying a t-shirt) it's way over-rated IMO.

For casual yet good and interesting food, there is Truffles. Either the one in Sea Pines or the one by Sea Shack; slightly different menus but both well executed.

Red Fish always gets my vote.

Would suggest one breakfast out...at Signe's. But then again I was there this morning enjoying myself tremendously!!! :)

There are a lot of wonderful restaurants in HH, so hard to choose!!! Have fun.

We really liked the Salty Dog. If you don't go there make sure not to miss Sea Pines, it is worth the $5!! We love the mexican restaurant, SanMigel's, you can walk there from the resort, out door music every evening too I believe. We LOVED our vacation to Hilton Head, have a wonderful time!

It depends on what you want. Short list FOR ME would include.
  • Wild Wings would be my top 3 choices then
  • redfish
  • alexander's
  • Alligator grill
The last 3 are somewhat similar. Those 3 with early birds and good food but a little more pricey than I usually go for, maybe $60 for 2 people without ETOH. For more casual seasfood, likely Boathouse II or Old Oyster Factory would be my 2 top choices.

We just got back last night and went to the Old Oyster Factory. The food was good - we waited about 45 mins for a table for 10, which we expected and were ok with since it was raining and was in no hurry. Plus, it was listed in the DVC perks booklet for the 10% off discount.

We're leaving for HHI in a couple of weeks, so I'm taking notes about your restaurant suggestions.

I have a question...I am a DVC member, but am not staying at a DVC resort in HHI this time around. Can I still take advantage of some of the DVC perks down there?

Here's the deal with Salty Dog.

All the south beach marina restaurants are owned by the same guy.

There is the Salty Dog Cafe which has an outdoor bar and grill (seasonal) and the indoor cafe just off the deck.
Then there is The Wreck of the Salty Dog which is a 2 level restaurant on the other end of the marina.
For a quick burger you can eat outside at the grill. For better quality and more choice then go to the Wreck.
There's also Land's End, Pizza, Ice Cream and a coffee/smoothie joint.

Count on live entertainment (guitar player, clown, magician).

I think it's worth a stop if you have yet to go and we always have a good time down there.

I can also recommend San Miguels & Capt Woody's for outdoor dining with a view and reasonable prices.

We have. Not only that, we got the DVC discount on top of early bird specials or coupons, such as the free salad plus discount at the OOF. Blue card in hand. We usually stop by the DVC resort to get the current discount listing.

I agree with Red Fish. We were there in May and found the restaurants at the marina (walking distance across the bridge from Disney) to be very good. We ate a different ones four nights and never had a bad meal. Several of them have nightly entertainment, and the atmosphere is quite nice and family friendly. We especially liked the Mexican one and I am not overly fond of Mex food. It is a great vacation resort!

Likely you didn't eat at Little Italy then.
