I know there are tons of websites and even a section here on the DIS about Las Vegas, and I have been looking. But I want to hear from you guys and hear about it from the perspective of people who usually prefer to go to Disney destinations.

I'll be going to Las Vegas in September on a business trip with my husband. We aren't gamblers or big partiers, so a work trip is a good excuse to go check it out.

I would like to stay in a nice hotel in as safe an area as possible that is also within easy walking distance to other major hotels, shops, restaurants, shows.

Advice, please? What exactly is "the strip"?

I personally like to drink and gamble so that is the reason I go a few times a year and also the reason most people I know go.

That being said all the strip hotels are in a good area, there is no better security in the world then there is on the strip. I suggest Venetian for a super nice hotel or paris for something nice but still affordable. If you sign up for the mailing lists of different casinos you will get promo offers that are pretty good. Bellagio, Flamimgo (I would never stay there) Harrahs and Caesars palace are all in good locations as well. There is also Treasure Island and Mirage. But honestly anywhere on the strip with a price you are willing to pay is a safe bet.

We love the Flamingo great location & wonderful pool. Don't miss the fountains at Bellagio & the Conseratory. We don't gamble much either we just like walking around.

We have stayed at the Venetian and Mandalay Bay. I enjoyed both of them but Venetian is my fav!

Vegas has wonderful entertainment and the food is wonderful, lots of shopping as well.

Have a great trip!

I go to Las Vegas every few months for business and/or pleasure. I prefer to stay on the Strip and have stayed at Mandalay Bay, the hotel at Mandalay, MGM, Luxor, NY NY, Monte Carlo, Paris, Bellagio, Caesars, Treasure Island, Mirage, Venetian, Wynn, Palazzo. I may have missed a few in there, LOL.

My favorite is the Venetian in the Venezia tower. The rooms are very spacious and well appointed. The bathrooms are gorgeous. I love being able to quickly get to Bouchon for breakfast because I have to have those made to order beignets with the chocolate sauce and fruit preserves.

My least favorites are Luxor and Paris. I think the hotels themselves are okay but really hated the rooms, the lack of amenities. Mandalay Bay has the Hotel which is nicer than Mandalay but the location is so far down the strip so for a first time visitor, I would also take those 2 off the list.

I am not a gambler but I love the food and the shows are amazing.

The "strip" is Las Vegas Blvd. where most of the big casinos and hotels are located. It's best to find a good map so you can see where everything is located and decide where you'd like to stay. There's a really good monorail system that run behind the casinos on one side of the street. We once stayed at the Hilton all the way at the end of the strip and had no problem getting anywhere on the monorail.

My gift to DH for his 50th birthday (3 years ago in September) was a 3-night stay in Vegas. We'd always talked about going but just never had, so I decided to surprise him.

We stayed at Harrah's, on the strip (where most of the hotels are) and we did do a lot of walking but the strip is long so we also took the monorail a few times which runs behind the hotels, from one end to the other, with several stops in between. It was quite inexpensive to do that, if I remember right.

But we walked a lot too, checking out all the hotels as most of them are interesting to see how they're decorated and a lot of them have free stuff to do.

DH and I aren't big on gambling either, we probably didn't spend $20 the whole weekend in the slot machines.

Harrah's is home to Toby Keith's I Love This Bar, so we spent some time there and tried a few restaurants close by (awesome buffets) and went to the Comedy Club at the Tropicana.

So much to see and do, but it was still pretty hot in September. We'd like to go back again, but next time during the winter months when maybe it's a bit cooler there. :)

If money is not an issue, I would suggest Caesars, beautiful Rooms and great location, you can't go wrong with any of the Harrahs properties (IMO), we have stayed at Caesars, Paris, Flamingo, & Harrahs and like them all, especially like the locations of their properties, all center strip - which is where you want to be. If you stay too far down the end, you will have lots of walking to do! You would be surprised at how far away everything really is, the hotel might look like it's right across the street, but you have to walk down the block, thru the shops, up the elevator, across the bridge, down the elevator and up the block to get there! :rotfl:

If you stay in Caesars, the Forum shops are right there (great shops), plenty of restaurants there, & the collisum has show- you might not have to leave the hotel, haha.

Paris is beautiful too, love the whole theme, and Flamingo & Harrahs are good clean hotel rooms, nothing spectacular, but seriously, how much time are you going to spend in the room!!! Have a blast!

Vegas is awesome! Think of it as WDW for adults. It is not just about gambling. There are lots of things to do. Are you a foodie? There are tons of awesome restaurants!

As far as hotels, I would suggest somewhere mid-Strip. I have only stayed at The Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood), and Bill's Gamblin' Hall and Saloon. I guess it depends what sort of hotel you prefer.

I hope you have a great trip!

When we visited LV, we stayed at the Luxur it is within walking distance to all the major hotels and we liked it the buffet restaurant there was also quite good we ate there for Breakfast and Dinner. Starbucks in the Lobby.

We are Disney fanatics but also love Vegas! Our favorite place to stay is the MGM Grand but you would probably be happier mid-strip. Look at Bellagio, Paris, Planet Hollywood and Caesars Palace. Have fun!

My husband and I went to Las Vegas for the first time in June. It wasn't a trip I would have planned on my own,but my parents were thinking of going again and asked if we would like to come along for my 40th Birthday. Heck yes!

We stayed at the Venetian (though my parents stayed at the Paris last year and liked it) and we loved that all of the rooms are suites. The hotel is huge and getting to the pool was a trek, but it was very nice.
Food in the Venetian is pricey. My Mom and I had lunch at the restaurant by the pool and 2 club sandwiches with fries (no drinks we had them from the pool bar) was $50. But if you want to splurge I suggest Sushi Samba for dinner! Sooo good. We weren't sure what to order so our waiter asked a few questions about our likes and dislikes and planned our dinner for us! Again, soooo good!

Another food splurge is Hugo's Cellar in the Four Queens Hotel!

We saw two shows while there. Terry Fator ,he was a winner on America's got talent, a must see as far as I'm concerned. His show is in the Mirage right across the street from the Venetian and we walked right over.
The other was Jersey Boys and their theater is located in the Venetian/Palazzo. Great show!
My tip for shows is to book directly through the hotel the show is playing in. You will get a much better seat selection and a little better price.

Enjoy your trip! I love Disney, but it was nice to do something different.

I'm probably going to be going to Las Vegas at the end of October for a conference. It is at the Venitian and unless something changes I should also be staying there. I found a pod cast today called The Vegas Tourists. I listened to a couple of shows and it was interesting. I figured it would give me a little info and maybe help me find something to do in the evenings.

Thanks for the info and opinions, everyone :). Now I'm getting excited! Sounds like being mid-strip is good. I may be spending a little time during the day by myself while my husband works, so I'll probably go shopping then and save the hotel sightseeing and shows for when he's with me.

Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone, and give you an update on our plans for later this month. We're spending two nights at the Hard Rock Hotel (for my husband's work meeting), and then moving over to the MGM Grand for a couple of nights. We got a great price on good seats for Cirque Du Soleil Ka, and we're also going to see the Blue Man Group. We haven't picked out any restaurants yet. Like most people, we obviously like to eat, but we aren't necessarily "foodies" or into super expensive fine cuisine. We'll find some places. If anyone has any mid-priced places you really like, let me know.

DH & I went there with our families for Christmas 2009. Here are a few of the places we ate at...ugh, I am trying hard to remember all of them but I am drawing a blank. :guilty:

GREAT restaurant for lunch/dinner. It is in the PARIS Hotel. Look at the menu, not too pricey. The food is awesome! We had lunch on the outside patio facing the Belliago and watched the fountains sing as we ate!!! :thumbsup2

I 2nd this one! The atmosphere if you can either eat outdoors or get the center table right in the window! Really special, really good, not really expensive! :thumbsup2

I'm coming in a bit late, but here are my thoughts. I just went with my husband for a week, and I'm sad to say, that we didn't enjoy ourselves at all. We should have saved a little more $$ and gone to Disney by ourselves. I THOUGHT I would be a big partier, really enjoy the night life, but it just didn't happen. With the time difference (east coast here), I was up at 3am every morning, and trying to stay up till 1am for the shows we had already booked and paid for, killed me.
We stayed at Paris, which, for being in the middle of the strip, was one of the cheaper hotels actually. You are right next to Planet Hollywood, and all their stores, and across from Belligio, and their stores, and of course Ceasers, and their huge mall. So if you want to shop, stay in a nice hotel, and safe a few $$, I say stay at Paris.
If you don't care about location, stay at one of the Wynn properties - utterly amazing. So beautiful inside. Another great hotel is the Hard Rock, but again, totally off strip. We walked from Paris to the Hard Rock, and I would NOT recommend doing that!!!!!!! MUST take a taxi if you want to go anywhere else. The Pink Taco in that hotel was rather good though!
