Las Vegas Trip Pictures

Really nice photos Danny! :cheer2: Thanks for posting!:yay:
I have to ask, did you use your tripod on the photo of the ceiling at the Venetian? I tried to get a shot of that handheld and it was dang near impossible. Of course I was rushing too because there was a ton of people milling around and I didn't want to hold up traffic. Love the night shots! Did they allow you to use flash or tripod at Madame Tussaud's? I'm going there (to Vegas) in a couple of weeks. I have a bunch of photos from many previous trips, but I just don't have the discipline to carry around the tripod.:sad2: Was there anyplace besides the ride on top of the Strat that didn't allow tripods? What do you do with the tripod if you are stopped and told to`put it away? Do you have a bag to carry it in or ???
Thanks!

Thanks DisneySuiteFreak! I did not use my tripod on the Venetian ceiling. I managed to wait until there was a lull in the crowd and just stood directly underneath. The bad part is, the shot does not do that ceiling justice. I couldn't seem to capture the entire beauty of what you actually see. It's so immense and, like you say, it's hard to stand there long enough and get a good composition due to the continual flow of people.

Flash is allowed at Madame Tussaud's and although I took several without it a lot of my shots were taken with a flash since some of the displays are just too dark. The 3 I posted were with a flash and I did not have my tripod at that time.

When we were at the Stratosphere, I did not have my tripod with me. When going through the security line, I did see a sign that said absolutely no tripods on the observation level. As far as my night shots, I just walked around with camera attached to my tripod and leaning on my shoulder. I shot everything full manual and with wireless remote shutter release. Lots of fun!

Gorgeous photos! Thanks for sharing. :thumbsup2

Thanks TwoOldPoohs!

Wow! That is TOO funny! :lmao:

No......that is NOT funny! :scared:

wow! You did a fantastic job. I really mean that.

Last time DH and I were in Vegas - "what happened in Vegas" DIDN'T "stay in Vegas". She will be 15 in a few weeks. :lmao:

So.... will we be expecting a new lil photographer joining us in a bit less than a year?????? ;)

Thanks for sharing your photos Danny. They really are terrific. Glad you had a good time.

Yikes! Absolutely no new members joining this family! Our youngest will be 7 in 4 days and is staying the youngest. ::yes::

I appreciate the nice comments Jennifer! I wasn't too sure what to expect as far as photo ops go. I mean, I knew there would be lots of purdy lights and all but thought they might just be whoop-de-do kind of shots. Turns out, Vegas seems to have lots of "compositional value". (whatever that means  )

I have a friend who really like the Bellagio and Paris fountain photos. Would you share your camera settings for those?
Again...love the sparkle. Those shots are great.

Great shots! I can't wait to get back to Vegas now that I know how to use a camera. But am I the only one waiting to see the DL photos? ;)

These are truly gorgeous pictures, especially the night shots!

May I inquire what camera(s) and lense(s) (and settings) you used to capture some of these beautiful images? (I could not view the EXIF info.)

Great job!!

Thanks,

Thanks. The Paris fountain photos were shot manual exposure at f/14, 3 seconds, ISO 100. Pretty much the same for the Bellagio shots but I did them sort of like I do fireworks and range the shutter from 2 seconds to 8 seconds based on what I'm seeing. That Bellagio fountain show gets going pretty quick and bright at times.

Thanks,

Thanks. I was using my D80 and Sigma 18-50mm lens. Most all of my night shots are done in full manual mode and ISO 100. Depending on how bright the lights are, my shutter speeds ranged from 1/3 second all the way to 25 seconds in some instances. With this particular lens, I've been enjoying a smaller aperture than might be typical at f/14. It's mainly personal preference in getting the effect I want/like. For evening/dusk shots without a tripod, I'll bump up the ISO to 400 or 640 and open up the aperture to f/2.8 if needed in aperture priority mode. That usually results in a fast enough shutter speed for handheld.

Great shots! I can't wait to get back to Vegas now that I know how to use a camera. But am I the only one waiting to see the DL photos? ;)

I almost forgot all about those. :rolleyes1 I guess I need to post a few.
