Hi, All-
Considering a Las Vegas Exchange, looking for opinions: Good location, amenities, stuff to do, experiences. Self, DH & DS9. Our DVC is 200 BCV points, if that matters. Thanks! :flower3:

Diane & Denise - sorry for the confusion. Once I decided where to go, I just started thinking in abbreviations like we talk here about WDW - where everyone understands! Thanks for noticing. -D.

We exchanged out last October for 7 nights to the Carriage house. It was a fantastic location across the road from the Alladdin hotel. It is only 4/5 floors and is dinky compared to the surrounding hotels. It was really nice and friendly, the rooms were lovely we had a studio which was comparable with Disney. It was nice to be able to walk to your room within 2 mins, if we stayed in a hotel it would have taken about 20mins! We didn't use the pool, but it looked ok. It wasn't a resort, but the location was great, very central and in the nicer area of the strip. Just behind the carriage house the Marriott time share was being built and it look very grand I think you can exchange out to that as well.

just my opinion but i would never trade dvc points for vegas. i go to vegas about once every 2-3months. you can find some really cheap room rates, even at the major hotel/casinos.
good luck!
viva las vegas!!!!!!!!!

What year are you planning to go to Las Vegas? Perhaps you can do a private exchange with someone who owns there? That might be easier and less expensive (no exchange fees). My sister stayed at one of the Hilton Grand Vacation Club resorts there and loved it.

I personally wouldn't use DVC points for LV -- easy to find good deals there. We rent from eBay if you search "Vegas rentals" and we love the Fairfield Grand Desert (now called Wyndham). There are several BIG renters/VIP owners there (pm if you need the 2 names) who we have used and friends have used and loved. We love the Grand Desert b/c it has no casino, no smoking, easy parking, pretty pools and rooms. It is family friendly compared to the strip resorts and we love the location.

I have to agree that with the deals that abound for Las Vegas, I would never trade valuable DVC points to go there. I'm probably not a good one to judge though, since Las Vegas is about the last place I want to go.

We own a week at Polo Towers... Its very nice, GREAT location in the middle of the strip. We don't use it all that much (I consider it a mistake, unlike my DVC) but do sell it on Ebay. The times we have used it have been very nice and enjoyable.

That being said, you may want to consider renting your points and taking the $2000-2200 for a nice hotel in one of the strip casinos... You should be able to get a nice room at a nice place and have a little extra money.

If you decide to go to a hotel there are a couple of things to know:

1. Room rates are higher on weekends.

2. Room rates are higher (regular rates) whenever there are major conventions in town. by higher I mean fewer discounts.

Pick a time with no conventions, and avoid the weekend, and you'll find some really good rates at the hotels.

Are you a member of II? If so, you can get some Getaway vacations at a number of timeshares for reasonable prices, again depending on time of year.

Thanks so much for your input! I know there are consistently good deals in Vegas, but our cash availability for vacations is low right now. Add it to the list of reasons we're glad we bought DVC. :) Ideally, a place with II, cheap airfare, options of activities and not too $$$ while you're there is my goal.
It seems like such a great place to go because you can have the quiet, desert experiences, or the woo-hoo shows, attractions experience. Lots of restaurant choices, not too expensive, etc. You never know what you'll feel like doing.
Thanks for the PM's, too. I'm planning way ahead here, so I'll get back to you.
