Dh & I decided to take a trip to Vegas this Christmas holiday. We will be there 12/30-01/02 and it will be our first time.

Question: should we book shows ahead of time or is it simple to get tickets to hotel shows?

We're definitely looking to do Cirque du soliel's KA. and maybe a hotel headliner.

Any other tips.

Staying at the Venetian on the Strip.

Regardless of the time of year you are visiting, you need to buy tix for the popular shows as early as possible. Since you are going for New Years, you definitely need to book them now. Did you already book your hotel? I remember in past years that hotels required a certain number of nights before and after the New Years holiday. Also, do plan to do something at or within walking distance of your hotel on NYE. I was there a few years ago and its IMPOSSIBLE to get a cab back to your hotel after midnight. We ended up paying an driver $100 to drive us back to the hotel. He was the cheapest one!! A lot of the drivers take advantage of vacationers and will only take high amounts of cash (off the meter) to drive you because they know you've been standing in taxi lines for hours. Please note, this is ONLY on NYE that they do this.

We went to Vegas this past March and had everything booked prior to arriving and it was so nice. We saw Circ O, Lion King and Donnie and Marie and all were EXCELLENT shows. After we were there we got tickets for Circ KA by joing the players club at MGM and getting tickets buy one get one half price. I would get tickets in advance especially being there during NYE. Enjoy your trip we did and would love to go back!

Moderators, please forgive me in advance for shouting, but...

BOOK AHEAD!!!!!

Whatever you decide to do New Year's Eve, plan on getting to that casino EARLY and staying LATE. The Strip will be closed to traffic, and there will be thousands of people in all states of sobriety. You think Magic Kingdom is crazy on Christmas? You ain't seen nothing ;) New Year's Eve would be a GREAT day to take advantage of a casino headliner within walking distance of the Venetian - that, Wynn, Encore, TI, Mirage, Harrah's, Caesar's Palace, Flamingo, I wouldn't try any further. Go for KA on January 1 or December 30 if you arrive early enough.

AMEN!!!!

however NY in Vegas is a BLAST. Followed closely by Super Bowl Weekend.

I booked my shows ahead of time when I did my birthday trip last November. I saw the Cirque LOVE (Beatles music), The Lion King at Mandalay Bay, and snagged a deal with one night at Caesar's that included two tickets to see Bette Midler near the end of her limited engagement.

I definitely recommend seeing Cirque LOVE. Even if you're not a huge Beatles fan, I thought it was fantastic enough to see again.

And I have my favorite foods there, but I splurged a lot due to it being a 40th birthday trip. The best deal (not to mention the BEST BURGER EVER) at Carnevino at the Palazzo, which is right next to the Venetian. For $30, we had burgers and two drinks included in a lunch special. We could mix/match which two of three choices: Beer (some Italian beer they serve), Bloody Mary, or Bellini.

I want to go back to Vegas again sometime next year, but I don't know when.

Shout away Kay. ;) I suffer from "old-timers" disease and have been known to forget stuff the second it enters into my head. Like walking upstairs, then forgetting what the heck I came upstairs for.

Tina, yep we booked flight and hotel yesterday.

Thanks for the tips,

Now this doesn't help you as we went in a slow time but we stayed at the Planet Hollywood for half a week and Jockey Club for half a week. We did some timeshare tours and got lots of free tickets for shows and other things.

But I agree for your time book ahead but if possible if you could hit a timeshare tour you could get some nice free stuff.

Definitely book your tickets ahead of time. Blue Man Group at the Venetian is an excellent show. We also saw Barry Manilow when he was at the Hilton. Now he's at the Paris with a greatest hits show. That man does know how to perform! I heard the Lion King is great. I'm sure the strip will be mega crowded on New Year's Eve so plan what you want to do ahead of time. The clubs will probably packed. Should be a fun place to be for New Year's!:)

Hubby and I went in June and were able to get KA tix for 1/2 price the day of the show when we signed up for our MGM/Mirage Players card. No problems getting into any show, actually.

However, since you are going over NYE I highly suggest you go ahead and book now. Can't hurt! Have fun...we LOOOOVE Vegas!

Another vote here for Love! It's my favorite Cirque show! We also saw the new Viva Elvis show at Aria -- it started off a bit slow, but was really good by the end. The Jailhouse Rock scene was amazing. Another Cirque show that is unique is Le Reve. You will have a great time, but definitely plan ahead. We were there for 4th of July weekend one time and it was a nightmare with crowds so I can't even imagine what NYE would be like.

We didn't do any shows, but we are foodies! Go to Planet Hollywood Mile High Shops and eat at Earl of Sandwich, or outside is Pink's Hot Dogs. Also for breakfast Mon Ami Gabi at Paris has this excellent quiche lorraine! About 10 minutes from the strip is the M Resort with the best buffet!
