Larry’s Wonderful World Trip Report Day 14 Wednesday.

Dear Friend,

Well all things must come to an end and this holiday to the land of Disney is about to do that, this being our last full day in Orlando we thought that it might be nice to do something different, and we had planned to try to arrange a canoeing trip, earlier during our holiday. However, Edward’s trip to Contra Care after the drive to Busch Gardens has made him a little car phobic, so we put off the canoeing expedition as it involves a seventy minute drive north of Sanford, to the De Leon State Park.

We had contemplated kidnapping Edward and telling him we were going to Blizzard Beach and claiming that we had got lost, however I took the bull between the horns and discussed it with him, and he agreed to the trip, because he likes canoeing.

So after my usual delightful morning trip to the lobby and food court, we had breakfast of bagels and “English” muffins, and sugar free hot chock. We set of for the De Leon State Park, this is a small park, which has an outdoor swimming pool, a very pretty small lake and river, which is calm and easily canoed for the un-experienced – Us. There are alligators and manatees, but sadly we didn’t see either of them. There is also a Pancake House where you cook your own pancakes on a table top griddle, where we planned on having lunch.

To get to De Leon, you go up the I4 and onto the 17, and turn left at De Barry, and follow onto De Land, De Leon is just past De Land. (Are you noticing De Pattern Here?

This reminds me of a joke a nice old chap I used to work for told me once, sadly I have forgotten his name but I remember the Joke.

Re-arrange the following works so they make sense in nine or less words.

Defeat, Deduct, Defence and Detail.

OK -------- Here goes.

When Deduct go over defence, defeat go before detail.

Sorry.

Anyway the trip was very enjoyable, we had a nice ride up north and after being on Disney Property for 95% of the trip, it was good to drive through De Land and see what a Floridian town looks like. The park was good.

We decided that we would hire the canoes, three of them, Jill deciding that such endeavours were not for her. So she sunbathed instead and took our photos. I took a camera with me and did some shots from the water and even passed the camera to Greg and he got a photo of “action Larry”. We noticed at that point that Greg was sitting in a rather wet canoe, so we found a nearby jetty and emptied out his craft.

However, it was obvious that his boat had a leak, so we went back to the start point and Greg swapped canoes for the last bit of our hour. And the people in charge were kind enough not to charge Greg for his canoe, so the whole hour only cost $16, not at all bad for some good old fashioned fun. (And very un-disney – our canoeing trip with them cost $60 each) A big boys outing.

Afterwards we made our pancakes in the pancake house which is in an old mill, where they still grind the flour for the pancakes, we I even got to fry the eggs myself on the griddle, the only problem was it gets a bit hot cooking at your table probably not the best place to eat in July. It was very nice food and good value for money. If you fancy a different day out I can recommend De Leon State Park, just tell em Larry sent you and that you want the non leaky boat.

On the way back to Disney we went to our second Wall Mart of the Trip in De Land, and it was a nice new one much nicer than the Kissimmee one in Orlando. We were laughing at the way you can buy a shotgun at 18 and a beer at 21, It is not for me to say that you ain’t quite gotten your domestic policies right yet, but you have to admit it is quite funny.

Anyway we went back to Disney and the chaps went to Disney Quest and Jill and I went to MGM. We were there for Millionaire and we had a very very lacklustre show, with bored floor manager, host and indifferent hot seat contestants, I got to second on the leader-board. I think that with a hot seat, a top of the leader board and two seconds, I can claim to have got my “touch” back which I had lost last year. So expect to see some pins, hats and lanyards on an e-bay screen near you soon. (Hey, I could start an advertising campaign. You read the report, now buy the pin! – Larry Merchandising.)

Talking of which Leanne said I got her web page wrong and it is www.leanneburroughs.com, so my humble apologies to her, and the advertisement break is now over, so you can stop fast forwarding the tape.

Afterwards we went to buy some snap at the Backlot Express and I had the turkey and pepper sandwich for the second day on the trot. Someone sent me an email saying, her husband couldn’t believe that she was reading what someone had for their lunch as entertainment. He might have a point.

It was time to go to the Adventurer’s Club, as we had almost let our membership lapse this trip. We saw two shows, one was dominated by Philip from the Comedy Warehouse, playing Hodges in a very over the top manner. I think I prefer Philip at the CW, where his attributes are best exploited. Well we kongalooshed and we Jumped up for Jinkies and we had a nice evening, then it was time to say good night to Pleasure Island for this trip and went for a little nosey at the Virgin Store and then picked up the kids from DQ.

I spent some time on the internet with a friend, and then had my last shut eye of the trip.

Day 15. Thursday.

Well I was up fairly early, went to the Lobby got some milk and did the usual pleasant things that have become a very nice routine this trip. I am going to miss my early morning Larry time, when I get home.

Well just because you are going home doesn’t mean that you cant have any fun, so we went to Epcot, parking at the Boardwalk, walked past some very nice looking sofa’s in the Pre Lobby. And walked to International Gateway.

There were quite a lot of the Garden Festival Main Pieces now unveiled so it was an unexpected pleasure to see them. These included a nice fantasia piece at the end of the main path between FW and WS.

We split up, Greg and Jill doing Test Track, and Ed and I doing Mission Space single rider line. It was posted 10 minutes and it took 50. Part of the reason was that our green room, became out of action. (barf squad I fear!) and we had to go to the Blue Room. The good news is that the people with me blobbed out, so Ed and I teamed up and got a capsule to ourselves and did two jobs each and it was fun, saying “Huston We have….. etc” quite a lot of times.

Well that then was that, we walked back to the International Gateway, I got my ritual hand stamped to make sure I will be back. And we headed via Beltz to the airport.

Pal Mickey has had a quite second week, as I promoted him to head of lap-top security, whilst we were on our travels. He is now wanting a nice uniform and a gold badge, I have agreed to that, but there is no chance of more than the minimum wage.

I conclude this report from 31,000ft, flying in the very wrong direction, saying I will see you in July for another Larry’s TR extravaganza.

Thanks for reading it to the end, it has been fun writing it for you, and thanks also to all the people you passed it on to who left kind comments, you can tell them that they are appreciated.

Cheers Larry,
Your Pal, over Michigan at 31K ft.

PS This TR was completed at home, the whole family are here, sadly the luggage isn’t. So if anyone can donate a few clothes we can borrow for the next few days, that would be nice. And I don’t want to worry you but Pal Mickey is in the luggage!!!

PPS One final thing. I have had emails from people asking me, “who is the real, Dear Friend?”

Well the answer, as Dr Marsh, of the Dino Institute would say is “that is proprietor.”

Loved it all, Larry...will be thinking of your adventures when I am there in May, but I certainly won't be able to write so eloquently about it.

Thanks, Larry, it's a been a total blast!

If I'm ever in Scotland, I'd like to knock you up.

HOLY COW! Look out, Larry! lol:p

Larry,

It has been a wonderful experience. I'm a little sad that it's over, but I'll keep my chin up, because I know that there will be further Larry trip reports in the not-too-distant future!

I read your last report and am glad that you are going again in July so that I can read more about your exploits! Thanks for the entertainment!
:earsgirl:

Thanks Larry!

Hope Pal Mickey makes it safely home.

Another great trip and report Larry. I have read your reports for years on Mouseplanet and fell as if I know you and your family.

Hope your luggage makes it way home. Looking forward to your next reports in July!

Thanks so much for sharing your trip Larry.

Really hope Pal Mickey is home with you now!!!

And, fwiw, I loved your sharing your meal of the day. It was entertaining for me, and also, good journaling for you.

You'll be to WDW again before I make my one trip this year, and I look forward to your report in July...

Really enjoyed them all. Larry. Hope your luggage has finally arrived and that you're over the jet-lag. Looking forward to your July visit.:Pinkbounc

I too have enjoyed your reports, Larry. Looking forward to reading your next report in July (and keep up the good work in terms of your diet/exercise!!)

I think I'll plan my next trip for a time when you'll be there just so we can play "where's Larry?" and see if we can figure out who you are :teeth:

Thanks for some great fun and a fix from the *world*, your trip reports are something I look forward to and I'm sad when they are over :jester:

Here's hoping the old bags show up soon!

Hi Folks,

Thanks for you nice comments, I thought I would let you know the bags are safe and at home, Pal Mickey Did a great job as undercover security guard.

See you all in July.

Cheers Larry.

I've really enjoyed reading your reports. We were there is Sept., and don't plan to make the trip this year, sorry to say.

Thanks for making helping me relive my last great disney adventure!

Adventurer's Club Rocks!

Great TR's!

I guess the reason we all like to read each other's TR's is usually when you get home and try and tell people all this stuff their eyes glaze over and they start going, "uh-huh, uh-huh - well sounds like you had fun" and run as quickly as possible in the opposite direction! So I love hearing about what you ate - because I can vicariously eat it too! And I know you'll be here to hear about my trip when I get back!!!

Ah, the sad end of a wonderful report. But you'll be back to WDW in no time (and I'll be there too...maybe...depends on when you are going).

Thanks for sharing every little bit.

BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO, Larry! Thanks for taking us along.

Looking forward to the next one!
