Large group-dining reservations

My family is a group of 7, parents and 5 kids. When I search reservations for all of us, I have a very limited choice in restaurants. Should I try breaking the group up into 4 and 3, then see if they can seat us near each other when we arrive? A lot of restaurants that I’d really like to try are not even available for our group of 7 and I hate to have to limit my options right from the start.

Sometimes, the Disney system doesn’t like odd numbers. Have you tried searching for 8?

Is it better to break larger groups into smaller groups online OR is it better to just call and talk to a Cast Member? We will be a group of 10 and I already know that we most likely will have to break into a 4/6 split for any ADRs we want to make. But obviously that might result in different dining times depending on availability. If the times are back-to-back that should still work but I do wonder what is the best approach for doing this.

I went this past August... I broke up my party of 8 and had much more luck finding reservations. When I arrived at the restaurant I would go to the host/hostess and ask if it would be possible that we could be seated near each other. Almost every restaurant sat us at one table, while a few put us next to each other. While it’s not guaranteed it’s worth asking, you may have to wait a little longer if anything.

I thought with a group that large you had to call anyway.

But even if you get the same time, be prepared that you may be broken up based on social distancing regulations in the restaurants as they can't shift tables around like in pre-COVID times.
