even though you can't use your laptop for internet access, we still travel with ours for 2 reasons: 1)we use it as a CD player...I am a music teacher and just can't go without music in the background...and 2)we burn our pictures from our digital camera to CD to free up memory stick space. I know you can get it done at Shutters, but it's pretty pricey. Now, the ideal situation would be to get a honkin memory stick, and an MP3 player, but if we do that, then we can't afford REAS...hey, I have my priorities!
We're bringing ours so that we can burn the pics onto CD's. We lost 109 pics at shutters when they attempted to burn my pics onto a cd for us. Guess what...no pics on the CD . That won't happen again.
My laptop stays home. With memory sticks so cheap, why risk damaging or having a $2000 computer stolen?
I have no problem with in cabin connections, but the last thing I want to see on my vacation is a bunch of people all over the ship working on laptops.
What next, cell phone service? I'm trying to get AWAY.
we haven't taken our laptop up until this point but on our 14 night repo cruise in August we are taking it .. it will serve as a DVD player, CD player, and we'll be able to download the pictures and video from everyone in our 23 person group and burn everyone copies of pictures & videos onto DVDs and CDs (we'll have something like 8-10 days at sea ... time to kill).
I brought my laptop once, on a seven day and I wouldn't do it again. I would consider it for the 14 day cruise if it were one of the newer ultra-light models. Mine is a Dell Inspiron 1100-it gets cumbersome real quick!
