I've seen posts on items to bring such as lanyards, what are they for exactly ?
Thanks

We used them to keep our KTTW cards dry. We didn't want to keep them on the beach so we bought waterproof cases for them. We got ours at REI but you can buy them onboard.

I just purchased some really cute lanyards at Wal-Mart for my kids. They have smiley faces on them and only cost 2.97. This will be handy to put KTTW cards, so they won't lose them. I just have one question, how do you punch a hole in the cards once you get them. Will a paper hole punce work?

Thanx:smooth:

I'm glad someone asked a question about lanyards :) I too have been wondering about them. Is it the thing that goes around your neck? Or a case to put things in to keep them dry, that also goes around your neck? I assume this is something that you get for kids? Thanks so much for your help!!

I have a lanyard I bought on the ship that has a plastic case that I put my room key in - it is wonderful.

They also have waterproof ones that are a necessity if you do a water type excursion.

You can put your room key - your charge card and even chap stick.

I also carry lanyards with all my pins on them.

I ordered lanyards (in bulk) for our group of 4/20 cruisers. The innaugural Western Cruisers have ordered them for their group also. I custom made inserts with our sale date, cruise logo, and usernames to place into the attached card cases. We will also insert our KTTWC's in the cases. I may have a few left over if anyone is interested. Here is the link to the website where you can see a picture of a thin lanyard (most people have wider ones - we ordered 5/8'' black ones) and also the card cases (we ordered vertical hanging ones):

I bought lanyards at REI-lots of different colors for $1/each. Got a different color for each person.

I also got the waterproof holder that attaches to the lanyard. It has a zip-loc type closure on the top and is also already hole-punched so that you don't have to punch the key card. These were 3 to a pack for $3.

All of the lanyard/holders I have read about being available on board are in the $5-6 range.

Do only adults need the lanyard/card holder or do you need to get them for the kids as well? My children will not have purchasing privileges (too young), but will they need ID when they are in the kids clubs?

Hey, gang, if you have a casino nearby, you can often get a lanyard from them. They give them away with their players cards, so people don't lose the players cards.

REI is an outdoors equipment store-mostly camping and watersports store. They have retail outlets in metro Atlanta (where I am) and other cities. If you are not near one try the following web site:

To address the question re: punching holes, you don't have to. If you go to Walmart and buy a fishing license holder it will have a pocket to slip the card into. However, we did not buy those because we wanted waterproof. So--we went to REI in Denver and bought a soft plastic enclosure (much like a ziplock bag) in the boating section. We also own the hard plastic kind. Couldn't recommend one over the other. Soft plastic is less bulky but I feel the hard plastic case is probably much more waterproof. We only used it when going to a beach.

hey everybody, I just got back from the 3/2 Magic cruise and then a week at the Grand Floridian. The lanyards sold onboard the ship are great, they have the Disney Cruise logo all over the straps..I think they were about $6.50 each..the only problem I found with them was that they clasp together behind your neck, so they can also come undone..my kids lost one running around the ship...but they do make everyone you meet while wearing it (not on the ship) ask about the cruise...I didn't really have any problem with getting my room key (keys) wet...my kids dropped them in the pool, got soda? inside the plastic pouch with the card, and tried to see if they would float at Castaway Cay...and they continued to work no problem...I did buy them lanyards at the Grand Floridian that were one solid strap as they decided pin collecting was now going to be their new hobby..and when you load up the Disney Cruise lanyard with pins it comes apart very easy...hope this helps....also met someone flying home Saturday that was on the 3/9 cruise....Wow what an experience they will have to share for the rest of their lives....just for everyone's info..this was my first Disney cruise...have cruised with many other lines...I was in a Cat.3 room 8102...highly recommend it over other Cat.3 rooms I saw.....bathrooms and verandah were huge....but the service was incredible....better than anyone else I have sailed with..the staff seems much happier than others...the ship was cleaner....the concierges...Miska & Thierry...were always there, the cabin steward (Sammy) was the man....and I have never seen the officers of any other ship be so accessible as those on the Magic were...without a doubt the best week's vacation I ever spent....it even made the service and the Concierge's at the Grand Floridian seem a little sub par..our meals staff (servers just doesn't seem to fit) did incredible magic tricks for our kids every night...took care of them the times mom and I didn't go with them to eat...Cat.3 can actually get your meal from the rest. delivered to your room...set up on the Verandah..and in 8102 you can eat and watch the sun go down...very romantic...so enjoy enjoy....you can tell from the size of this message just how great it was.:jester:

I also bought lanyards in "bulk" last year and plan on doing the same this year. I got them from The oriental trading company for 5.95 per doz. They are red/white/blue with USA written on them. After giving them out at the sail away party, another DIS memberwalked around with a hole punch and put a hole in the corner of our KTTW cards, and we clipped them on! The keys are plastic (water proof). The kids never lost their keys once! They were able to open the cabin door without taking them off their neck. The cool thing about this was that since everyone in our DIS group had the same lanyard (there were about 100 of us) we were able to spot each other very easily. The web site is www.orientaltrading.com
