Lanyards given when boarding ship?

Last time we cruised with DCL we received lanyards. Do you always receive these once you have sailed at least once? I don't want to pack ours if we will receive new ones! Thanks

Yes, Castaway Club members get new lanyards when they check in at port.

I was thinking about picking up 8 for my family since we're all first time cruisers but at $13 each I think I'll stick to pockets

There are 3 lanyards, one for each version of Castaway Club (Silver, Gold, Platinum). You get the color that corresponds to your level (though Platinum has been receiving black I believe).

I think the whole "problem" with "black lanyards" for Platinum cruisers is that color-wise there really isn't a differential between silver and platinum. They look the same. So Disney, having named the levels as such, had to figure out what to do to differentiate them with the lanyards (and the old canvas beach bags if I remember correctly). Their option was to keep the Silver lanyards silver/grey and make the Platinum ones black with silver and gold writing. The only way to NOT have that issue would have been to go Bronze, Silver, Gold a la the Olympics or something else all together (Characters would have been cute...and if they went with the Fab Five, they'd have 5 levels of cruisers - Pluto, Goofy, Donald, Minnie, Mickey.)

I like this idea, but it would be too controversial. LOL. Each character has a strong fan base, they would all argue over the order. Plus other people would say one of the 5 should be replaced with THEIR favorite character.

I'm just kidding around. It sure would make it easier to distinguish between the groups, and more colorful too.

Oh, I know. There is no perfect way to do it. I just randomly went with the Fab Five because those are kind of like the "inner circle". I like the 5 levels also as it more closely matches what other lines do in terms of their levels (as in "more than three").

Yeah, they're now a more silky texture, also. But I was posting to show the colors. Those haven't changed. At least as of our last cruise.

If you're buying your own lanyards, you could try places like GamesStop or even the dollar store to see if you can pick up some Star Wars or Marvel or Frozen lanyards. They don't say DCL on them, but they are in the Disney family and they will be cheaper than $13.

Also, to compare, I bought a Star Wars one on board (SWDAS) and it was $16. It was expensive, but I love it.
