If you swing through Alton, IL there's Fast Eddie's website here
And, be warned about Lambert's. It's usually at least an hour wait, and they don't take credit cards, so bring cash or your checkbook. The hog jowls were really good, but I wasn't impressed with the place overall. If it weren't for the wait, my opinion may have been better.
For the most part, between Eureka MO and Ozark it was mostly fast food. Lots of fun sights along 44 to 65.
If you're looking for anything in the St Louis area, let me know.
I believe Lambert's opens at 10:30a.m. for lunch. We showed up at 11:00 for lunch and waited an hour (on a Friday, this summer). The rolls are yummy - it's just a fun atmosphere.
I'm drinking out of my Lambert's mug right now.I'm so jealous. I really miss that place. My favorites are their fried okra, fried catfish, fried potatoes and onions, and of course their throwed rolls.
Yep, it's a heart attack waiting to happen.

If you are coming through Osage Beach, MO, I would have two suggestions:
1. The Horny Toad - on the water - yummy food (they have a killer grilled chicken dish). http://www.toadcove.com/hornytoad.aspx
2. Asia Cuisine - new restaurant - great if you enjoy Asian food. This is our new favorite restaurant at the Lake. They are right on Hwy 54. This isn't a fast food/buffet restaurant - nice little sit-down place.
(yes, I live at the Lake)
Ok. Let's see. We will be taking route 34 to 67, then 136 to 336 then 172-72 (where it hits mo) 61 to 54 then I44 to 65 towards Branson.
We thought of Pickled Pete's in Osage Beach.
I think DH saw that on Drive Inns, Diner's & Dives- .
Looks like you are coming from the Macomb area? I'm originally from Quincy, so I can offer suggestions there if you are interested, but (and I stress the but) I was born and raised there so my idea of good may be skewed, lol.
I'm the "non defective cat", aka her husband. Seeing as you live in this neck of the woods, I can almost guarantee that you've eaten the same food, cooked much better, in other places. It is a fairly cool novelty restaurant, what with people who will throw you a roll from across the room, and if you haven't eaten much midwest/southern cooking (catfish, greens, okra, beans, liver, etc) I'm sure it's thrilling. I didn't much care for over an hour's wait to eat what I can get at most any local greasy spoon.
Personally, I think that you can get the same type of food, in the same concept, many times better (albeit without the throwed rolls) at Cracker Barrel.
If you have 40 minutes to spare, bypass Lamberts and go to the Fish House on the Branson Landing.
