We are planning a motorcycle ride into Missouri coming up. We want to go to Lambert's restaurant. Are there any other good places to eat between there and West Central Illinois?

Thanks.

where at in west central Illinois and what route are you taking? :)

Ok. Let's see. We will be taking route 34 to 67, then 136 to 336 then 172-72 (where it hits mo) 61 to 54 then I44 to 65 towards Branson.
We thought of Pickled Pete's in Osage Beach.

I think DH saw that on Drive Inns, Diner's & Dives- .

If you are coming through Osage Beach, MO, I would have two suggestions:

1. The Horny Toad - on the water - yummy food (they have a killer grilled chicken dish). http://www.toadcove.com/hornytoad.aspx

2. Asia Cuisine - new restaurant - great if you enjoy Asian food. This is our new favorite restaurant at the Lake. They are right on Hwy 54. This isn't a fast food/buffet restaurant - nice little sit-down place.

(yes, I live at the Lake)

Thanks. WE are hoping to get to 'about' Osage Beach to spend the night on Friday night. Will then hop on down to Lambert's on Sat.... Will ride on back up to Ozark area on sat night and then back home on sunday. It's all about the FOOD for us (and the ride of course).

If you swing through Alton, IL there's Fast Eddie's website here

And, be warned about Lambert's. It's usually at least an hour wait, and they don't take credit cards, so bring cash or your checkbook. The hog jowls were really good, but I wasn't impressed with the place overall. If it weren't for the wait, my opinion may have been better.

For the most part, between Eureka MO and Ozark it was mostly fast food. Lots of fun sights along 44 to 65.

If you're looking for anything in the St Louis area, let me know.

Since you live there, do you have any recommendations for places to stay?
Thanks.

Thanks. I hope we don't have a long wait (we are going to get there early!)... I had read they didn't take CC... I do have cash ;)
I don't think we are going thru St. Louis this round. but if we decide to, I'll let you know.

I believe Lambert's opens at 10:30a.m. for lunch. We showed up at 11:00 for lunch and waited an hour (on a Friday, this summer). The rolls are yummy - it's just a fun atmosphere.

I'm drinking out of my Lambert's mug right now.:rotfl: I'm so jealous. I really miss that place. My favorites are their fried okra, fried catfish, fried potatoes and onions, and of course their throwed rolls.:thumbsup2 Yep, it's a heart attack waiting to happen.

DO I see a theme? LOL.

Ok. DH will love it too!!

I could eat the rolls all day long:lovestruc

I've been going there since the 60's, it's alot bigger now, but still the place for good old country cooking. I'm talking of the original location in Sikeston Mo. I've eaten at the Foley location also.
I love the okra, fried chicken and the white beans.

Go on an empty stomach and enjoy!

That's what I was going to say!!!! I love the lobster pasta! Yummy!!!!!! I can't remember exactly what it was but it was soooo good!

Looks like you are coming from the Macomb area? I'm originally from Quincy, so I can offer suggestions there if you are interested, but (and I stress the but) I was born and raised there so my idea of good may be skewed, lol.

I'm the "non defective cat", aka her husband. Seeing as you live in this neck of the woods, I can almost guarantee that you've eaten the same food, cooked much better, in other places. It is a fairly cool novelty restaurant, what with people who will throw you a roll from across the room, and if you haven't eaten much midwest/southern cooking (catfish, greens, okra, beans, liver, etc) I'm sure it's thrilling. I didn't much care for over an hour's wait to eat what I can get at most any local greasy spoon.

Personally, I think that you can get the same type of food, in the same concept, many times better (albeit without the throwed rolls) at Cracker Barrel.

If you have 40 minutes to spare, bypass Lamberts and go to the Fish House on the Branson Landing.

Yep, north of there (Galesburg).
Might be ready for lunch near Quincy on the first day?

Guess that's what we were looking for ;) A cool novelty place.
We go for out of the way, different sorts of places too. We rode about 3 hours to a little place that supposedly had the best fried chicken of all time... when we arrived (a sat afternoon) it was closed until dinner time :scared1: :headache: :confused3
We love to ride and the food is good too  Thanks for the info.
PS, we love Cracker Barrel.
