Lake Garda

Going to Italy for 2 weeks in May & one of the places we are staying is Lake Garda.

This will be our 1st holiday in Italy.

Any tips for Italy & places to visit in Lake Garda . we will have a car.

Lake Garda is stunning. I've been several times and I'm going back this year. I would recommend a trip to Verona and to Venice. Where are you staying? We usually stay by the bottom of the lake in Bardolino so it's easy to get to Verona from there (half an hour). I would also recommend using the ferry to get around the lake to see some other resorts. We love Sirmione and Limone. I would also pay a visit to Gardaland, definitely worth a day. www.gardaland.it You will have a great time. Ask if you have any more questions.

...... definitely visit Verona! The best way to tour the town is to walk. The amphitheatre there is stunning - it is worth reading up about it's history so you can appreciate it more. We visited during the day and had a guide, and then at night we went to a concert there.

It is mainly an opera venue but we saw a concert geared to less specialist taste - and sitting there underneath the stars was really magical!

I haven't been to Lake Garda for years, but you'll be pleased you have the car. It is a beautiful place!

I love Venice - can't remember how far it is from Lake Garda, but worth a visit if you can. Travel around by the vaporetti - boats that operate like buses. There is a great site if you do plan to visit, that will advise you on parking etc. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/

When we went (late April) it was really hot, but I've heard it can vary.

We are going to Florence in May. This will be my first trip to Italy although DF has visited Lake Garda in the past.
