Laissez les bon temps Rouler...Feb 2010 2/20 MK Last part of the Night updt 9/70 pg65

I can't believe I forgot to mention what we did Saturday night. Brent, Danielle and I saw Tangled and we loved it. I would go back and see it again. I love the fact that my 25 year old son still goes to see Disney movies with me.

Okay now back to the trip.

When we last left off, Dennis and I had shared some ice cream treats and each others company. Jada and Lauren had caught the Flights of Wonder show. Danielle and Michelle had ridden Everest twice back to back.

Once we were all back together the others wanted to have a snack too. We made our way towards Kali and the Maharajah Jungle Trek. We found some snacks here.

Michelle got a frozen coke and Danielle had a pretzel with no salt. While they ate we debated doing Kali. It had been a real cold day but had warmed up some, but not a whole lot. Did we really want to get wet? We had ponchos but would that be enough? We were planning on going straight from AK to the Poly for diner. In the past we planned ahead and brought a change of clothes with, but not today. In the end we decided it wasn't worth it and passed.

After everyone was finished with their snacks we hit the Maharajah Trek. I love the details in this area. For some reason I do not have a single picture of the komodo dragon, I think it's due to the fact that I have pictures from previous trips.

We did get this guy.

We entered the bat house. The bats don't bother me. I was disappointed in the lack of bats. There was just few. When we came in June 2009 there were tons of bats. I guess they don't like the cold.

Lauren was so facinated by the bamboo we had to take a picture, but it's taken through some fencing.

Next up was a family favorite, the tigers. When these guys are active they're so fun to watch.

Now onto some animal bums. I don't know why that's what they always show us.

Since we had driven to Disney we got a chance to see the orange groves. I loved that they had oranges growing in AK too.

It's now time for some fun shots. I got Danielle to do this in 2009 and Michelle was game.

In this one I had to take it real fast, the little seat was killing Michelle's bum.

Onto the bird area. I know lots of people don't like the birds flying around, but once again they don't bother us. We love to look for the different birds.

Love the birdhouses.

As we exited we found another site gag. I told Michelle to act like she was lifting the cart.

Of course you can't really lift it.

As she is doing this Danielle makes the comment "It looks like you're trying to use the bathroom." Of course that make us all crack up.

Well that's it for this update. We still have the parade and a few other things before diner.

I LOVE the birds, and looking for them too. We just went to the aviary at the Portland Zoo, and spent quite a while in there just watching them. They also have some Lorikeets that you can feed nectar to. It was so fun having them climb up onto our hands and watch them!

GREAT photo op with lifting the cart!! Super fun one!

Animal bums- doesn't take much to please me, I guess, I always find them hiliarious! :thumbsup2

I like your stretching tiger picture! The action is a fun one.

Gorgeous tiger shots! Thanks for the morning laugh over Michelle trying to lift the cart! I love pictures like that!

We would have made the same decision as you about skipping Kali -- being wet on a somewhat chilly day just isn't worth it.

Glad you enjoyed Tangled -- we will have to see that at some point.

How neat! I would love to feed some birds.

I'm so lucky Michelle is game to do just about anything. She has passed her teenage embarassment years.

Me too!

I have another one but didn't include it since I already has so many.

Thanks Jackie! I'll tell Michelle she's humoring everyone else. You'll have to get Connor to try it next trip.

.

On our Thanksgiving 2002 trip the guys rode it over and over, then it turned cold. We had to buy them all shirts to wear.

Glad you enjoyed Tangled -- we will have to see that at some point.

Go see it! All 3 of us loved it.

Hey, nice collection of butt pictures! :thumbsup2

We never spend much time in the aviary. I think we just don't have the patience to look for them. I like the pictures you got though.

Really cool birdhouses. I never noticed them before. You got some really fun shots of the girls.

I don't blame you on skipping Kali since you were going straight to dinner.

Fun Update!

I too have never noticed the Bird area !!Where is it ??? Loved the BUM shots that is the usual pose I get on Safari !!!:lmao:

Butt pictures are the norm for us.

Next time make a game out of finding the birds. With your competative nature I'm sure you would win.

Thanks MEK! I'm sure you will get great shots of the birdhouses next time.

The bird area is part of the Maharajah Jungle trek, it's after the tiger area. Try to go in there next time.

Glad I'm not the only one who get the Bum everytime.

I see I somehow missed an update. Or several. But I'm all caught up now. Love all the AK photos! Esp the tigers.

Great tiger shots!

I still haven't seen Tangled :(

Darn house of boys and teenage girls who preempt things by seeing movies with their friends!

Hi! I just spent a few days reading through your TR from the beginning. Seems like a great trip! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Vanessa! I just did some catching up too! Michelle trying to lift the cart is a hoot! Of course Danielle thought she looked like she was trying to go to the bathroom.

Hey Vanessa ....

Is it time to start writing this TR again? popcorn::

Hi GB! Glad your caught back up. I've kind of let this report go to the wayside.

Right about the time you posted this I went back to see it again with Michelle and one of her friends. And if given the chance I would go see it again.

Hi! I just spent a few days reading through your TR from the beginning. Seems like a great trip! Thanks for sharing.

:welcome: and thanks for joining in! I'm sorry I haven't been updating but I do plan on getting this thing going again.

Hi Anita! Thanks for stopping by. I need to check out your new report too.

Hey Vanessa ....

Is it time to start writing this TR again? popcorn::

Your right I do need to get this going again. I really hate not finishing what I start.

The very first thing I want to do is give a very heartfelt apology. I'm very sorry for letting the trip report drop. It's very unlike me because I hate to start something and not finish it. I'm going to finish this report even if no one else is reading, at the very least it will be a huge help to me someday when I get ready to scrapbook this trip. Right now I'm working on our New Years 2006 trip. I'm still doing New Years Eve our first day in the parks, so it will be a while before I get to this trip and I'm sure my 40+ year old brain will need the help. And we are also fast approaching the one year anniversary of this trip.

On today, SuperBowl Sunday I can't help but look back to this day last year. In Louisiana and especially in our household there was excitement in the air. The Saints were playing in their very first SuperBowl and we would be leaving for our surprise trip in less than a week. My day started off very early with 7:30 a.m. Mass. After waiting for what seemed like forever Michelle and I headed for New Orleans. She has gotten us tickets to "Mama Mia" for my Christmas present. It was the afternoon showing and the theater was right at the edge of the French Quarter so of course we had to head down to the quarter after the show. The excitement was incredible. We just soaked it up as we walked down Burbon Street. I wrote about our day on my previous report it can be found here http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=35354856&postcount=386 & here http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=35355010&postcount=387. We were walking down Burbon for kick off! But we left right after that and was back in our living room before half time.

Now back to this report.

When I left off we had just visited with the Tigers, Birds and Bats. We then headed back to the front of the park to catch Mickey's Jammin' Jungle Parade. Dennis and Michelle hadn't seen it since 2002. Jada and Lauren had never seen. Danielle and I caught it June 2009. We started to cross the bridge from Asia to Discovery Island, we looked around and decided that this would be a pretty good spot. One side was roped off for spectator and the other side was kept clear. We took a seat up next to the rope. Dennis was behind us since he was taller. As it got closer to the parade this became a problem. People trying to get across were trying to pass behind us making it very crowded. To make matter worse some people got stuck between us and Dennis, they ended up staying right there and ruining his view of the parade. It was very frustrating, I was counting on him taking the pictures since he does a better job than me. Oh, well we'll just have to suffer through my picture taking.

Chip and Dale came right up to the girls.

Isn't Minnie lovely?

I think this was when it hit me how hard it must be on the people who operate this floats. They have to make them move and I know where we were sitting they had to go uphill. They must be very tired afterwards.

Up close and personal with Brer Bear.

More to come.

Brer Rabbit was gettin' down!

I love the smoking BBQ pit!

Donald!

Pluto!

And of course Mickey.

After the parade we all headed here.

We a FPs for everyone to ride Dinosaur. Of course Jada wasn't going to ride and elected to sit this one out and went for a bio break. I always end up using the bathroom in Restaurantosaurus but we have yet to eat there. I would really like to rectify that in the future. Very soon they were exiting the ride. We still had two fps left so Dennis and Michelle jumped back in line. I took Danielle and Lauren and we went looking for Jada. It was time to pull her away from her smoke break. We took the girls to The Boneyard. After sitting in there for a while I got to thinking. I still hadn't bought myself a shirt, but I had seen one I wanted earlier in the day. It was fast approaching the time we needed to leave to catch our diner at 'Ohana's and I didn't know if I would have time after Dennis and Michelle got finished. I found Jada and asked her to keep up with the girls while I made a mad dash for the store I had seen my shirt. I took this on my way out of Dinoland.

I found the shirt in Disney Outfitters. It is black short sleeve shirt with a rounded neckline. It has a leopard print Mickey head in the center of the chest and it as some beads on it. Very nice and understated, perfect for me. I made it back to Jada and the girls before Dennis and Michelle.

We then all started making our way towards the front to say our final goodbyes to Animal Kingdom. As we were crossing the bridge from Discovery Island we looked to our right and saw all these birds. There must have been hundreds of them. I guess this is where they stay for the night.

We made our way out to the buses to catch a bus for the Poly and our last big diner together at 'Ohanas. This was also our last big diner together on our Mardi Gras 2004 trip. We had the best time and I was really hoping for another great diner together. Stay tuned to find our how our diner went.

Can't wait to hear about O'hana. I think I want to go here for my Aug trip but we're having a bit of a hard time choosing between there and Whispering Canyon Cafe. Maybe your TR will help!

I'm still here Vanessa!

I think the parade at Animal Kingdom is one of the best. I'm sorry that Dennis ended up not having a good spot to watch from. It's hard to know where a good spot is, considering pedestrian traffic and everything.
