Got invited to a wedding. Invite basically says: join us for a weekend in the woods, and the couple is exchanging their vows at 3:30 in the afternoon. It is in a youth campground which is rented for the whole weekend, and guests are invited for the whole weekend, just bring your own camper, tent etc.

We will be attending the wedding and reception.

But, I don’t have a clue what to wear. I’m thinking definitely pants (either black khaki capris or blue khaki pants). My jacket choices are the brightly colored artsy print, the bluish/green print, or the black and tan sweater.

My concern is…we are going to Disney/and a Disney cruise a couple of days after the wedding, and if something happens to the artsy print jacket, I will not have time to get it dry cleaned. I’m also wondering if the reception will be outside, Ie around a campfire. I would not want to bring smokey clothes with me on the trip.

I’m pretty sure I will be contacting the bride for direction, but thought I would run it by all you fashionistas first.

The relationship we have with this bride and groom is, my husband was her boss about 10 years ago, and that friendship has been maintained over the years.. We get together with them about every 6 months for lunch!

So, I’m curious of thoughts on what you all would wear!

For the record, I bought the artsy jacket…it was nicely on sale, only wore it to work a few times before I retired, but because it said “cruisewear” to me!!! I love the blue/green jacket, I’ve worn it lots! And the black/tan sweater was a steal from a resale shop ($7.50), that I also planned on bringing on vacation.

Interesting suggestions…I do not have a nice blouse. And, I try to not purchase clothes that I will only wear once.

I do have a black t-shirt dress, with an asymmetrical hemline…and I have a different bright colored option too.

So do either of these options work? If it is a warm day, I don’t love the black dress without a jacket or sweater of some sort. I do love the purplish dress, with or without the sweater. (Currently, purple dress/sweater not slated to go on Disney trip)

I should have added, the wedding is in October, so if it is an average day, the high/lows for the day will be 61/47 degrees. Although historically, the high can go as high as 88, and the lowest low temp was 31 degrees.

There is no wedding website.

The first option ( animal print and black dress) works well and should be fine on the cruise trip as well, as separates or together. The black dress looks washable- what’s it made of?

Both the dresses are washable, and both are 95% acetate/5% spandex.

In October either one of those last two dresses will do. If it was summer I think they would look a bit work-wear-ish outdoors, but once it starts to turn cool they will read as more casual.

If I owned those two cute jackets at top leftt I'd be looking now for a soft lighter-blue t-shirt dress that would work with both of them. (It's the right time of year to get a deal on something like that.) I actually got one that is very pale blue at Sam's club recently; a slightly beefier knit that doesn't cling to every little bump in the figure. It cost me the princely sum of $10, LOL.

I love to dress up for all types of events but I think if I got an invitation for a campground - I’d wear a nice pair of long pants or jeans, a nice top, a jacket and then a colorful shawl or pashmina to wear around my neck. That way, if it’s warm, you can ditch the jacket and wear the shawl or if it gets too cold, you can wear both.

Oh heck…if it is cold…I’m going right to a winter jacket, especially if we are outside! And yes, we’ve had snow the first weekend in October already!

I always carry some sort of shawl or pashmina with me…even with a jacket, you can use it like a scarf or cover your head with it.

Wedding at a campground in October… jeans & a tee. Seriously, who wears dresses while camping? My sister got married in the afternoon at a pavilion in a local park. I was her matron of honor. She wore a tea length cotton dress, I wore a knee length dress, the groom & his best man wore suits. Everyone else, including the parents, was in shorts, jeans, tees or local football team’s jerseys. After the short ceremony, we took a few pictures, then we all changed too. They had football team jerseys that said Bride & Groom.

Me! 😎
Cool, comfy, easy to switch to swimwear and renew DEET and sunscreen.

Mostly camped near beaches in later years but even in the wooded areas it was easy and not fussy. Now if I was camping in areas where “skeeters” or black gnats/flies “kidnapped” people (Michigan, Minnesota, etc) I might rethink my gear.

I’m in Wisconsin. Skeeters are practically the state bird. (Technically, the WI is a Robin, but the skeeters are much more problematic to me personally.). If this wedding/reception is outside, AND if the have citronella candles, we will be leaving early…that is one smell that makes me gag.

I think I will reach out to the bride in the next week or two, not only to find out a bit more of attire expectations, but also to see if she needs any help the week or so before the wedding. Her mother passed away several years ago, so she might not have a go-to person for last minute stuff that comes up.

All look great, I wouldn't chance going with something I wanted to take on vacation unless I was able to find a same day dry cleaner in the area. Most towns have at least one same day or next day, either that or they'd be willing to do it if asked in advance. Have fun!

Oh I wish they had “same/next day dry cleaning” in our area. In our town, there is one cleaners, they process dry cleaning on Wednesday, for Thursday pick up, and they have a fixed capacity…or your stuff moves to the next weeks loads.

That's unfortunate and sort of leads to your wedding outfit if you have your heart set on bringing certain items on your trip. Only possibility is if you are willing to get the item dry cleaned at Disney because while it may be expensive I imagine it is also fast. I found a price list, not sure if it is up to date because this is cheaper than where I live (I pay $15 for a blazer and $35 for outerwear) but to me the money might be worth it to not have to choose, although you'd need to pack that smokey thing really well to not stink up the rest of your luggage. Maybe airing it out for the 3 days before you leave would help then off to Mousekeeping Dry Cleaning it goes.
