I am.trying to plan ahead and decide what to wear for boarding day. I have read a lot of posts to wear swimsuit under clothes since luggage may not be availtime for some time. Do a lot wear a sundress or cover up (appropriate of course) on boarding day?

I suppose it depends if you're going to go swimming. But you just pack those items in a carry on bag and wear a sun dress or whatever you feel comfortable in thats appropriate.

Well, it depends....if you are flying in the same day, think about comfort on the plane. It's easier to throw a swimsuit in your carry on than to be uncomfy all morning.

You will have access to your cabin at 1:30, although as you noted, likely without luggage. If you need to swim before that, you can change in a rest room if desired.

If not flying same day, the swimsuit under the clothing is a lot more practical. Considering that you may not see your luggage till 5 pm, I'd do regular clothing over swimsuit, with undies in the carry on in case the luggage didn't come as soon as I wished.

We drive in the night before and get up early to head to the boat:-)
I usually wear my bathing suit under shorts and a shirt. We'll see how that goes next cruise...as I am approaching 40 I have resorted to skirted bathing suit bottoms...not sure how comfy that will be under my shorts

OK, I guess I am in the minority here - we don't even look a the pools on embarkation day. In the summer, I wear shorts and a t-shirt, but for the winter cruises, I wear khakis. There isn't much time after the Sail Away party and main dining - just about enough to change your clothes IMHO.

Jeans, sweatshirt and jacket!!! I am going on the May 3rd Alaskan!

We travelled to the port in our bathing suit tops and underwear, with a sundress over them. We changed our bottoms in the bathroom at the port. It was more comfortable to drive to the port in underwear, and very easy to just change our bottoms under our dresses in the bathroom- rather than having to get completely naked in the port bathroom. Husband and son just wore board shorts and t-shirts.

I am wearing a cute dress that I am also wearing to my rehearsal & rehearsal dinner a week before. We are pitting bathing suits in our carry-ons just in case.

Jeans and a tee shirt (or sweatshirt if it's cold)

If I want my swimsuit I'd be more likely to bring it aboard in a carryon than wear it, unless I wanted to get into the pool before they start allowing guests into staterooms. And on embarkation day I don't think I'd want to mess with the pool. There's tons of people on deck for the sailaway and then you have to be ready for the muster drill.

I am over 40 and wear skirted swimsuits too, LOL. I wore a long knit skirt and a knit top, with swimsuit underneath.

Another vote for just packing the bathing suits & cover-ups etc in our carry-ons & changing once onboard. That way going to the pool is an available option but we won't feel obligated to the idea if it's too crowded or not so nice out or if we decide to linger over lunch & blow off the pool.:goodvibes

Hi All,

On my first cruise I wore a coverup over my swimsuit (which never got within 1 foot of water at any point on the vacation :-), ten thousand pounds of assorted camera equipment and a huge smile!

For my upcoming cruise which will be Alaska July 19th, I will be wearing (weather dependent of course) a Disney shirt to match all the others in my group, comfy jeans, fifteen thousand pounds of assorted camera equipment and another huge smile.

I did buy a brand spankin' new swimsuit especially for this trip (there is a hot tub after all) but I am not sure how much use it will get. If my first cruise was any indication, I will probably be so busy that I won't have time to lounge in either a hot tub or the pool.

One thing to consider when choosing what to wear on the outside when boarding is that they WILL be taking your photo on embarkation and this is the only photo op which is not optional so... you might want to wear something "cute" so that you will look good in the picture should you decide to purchase it as a momento.

Take care all, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!

Boarding photos are totally optional. When you go to the check in counter, you will have your picture made and it will be embedded in your room key. I think the boarding photo is used for the face recognition in case of purchasing a CD of photos, the photographers don't use photopass cards like at the parks. I skipped all photos in January, DH hates them.

As to boarding, wear what you want, if you think you will want to be at the pool, you can certainly wear your suit under your clothes or carry it on and change in a rest room. There are places on board near the pools to do so.

For those who do plan to change--there are many areas of the ship with public restrooms. I'd suggest using the ones on decks 3, 4, or 5 (Magic and Wonder) to change as the floors on deck 9 get wet quickly from swimmers using that facility. The staff mops frequently, but you know how it is with kids and swimming.....

I personally wear a comfy sundress the first day. It looks really nice in the pictures. I also wear my hair tied back or up as the wind/humidity will make your hair look like crap in the pictures if you wear it down. I pack a carry-on with swimming suits, sunscreen, a couple towels, etc. for the family. I also have a change of clothes for everyone in the carryon. The public restrooms are large and able to accommodate changing.

If the weather is warm, I wear capris and a decent shirt. Since it's just DH and I, we don't swim that first day unless it's in the evening. There's just no time! I mean, typically we don't get on board until 12:30 or 1. It's lunch first, then to make dining changes or brunch ressies if we need to, and off to check out our room and drop off our carry-on since the cabin is available by then. Then we go explore the ship after that (especially will be true for our first Dream sailing!). By then it's time for the lifeboat drill, and after that we pick a spot at the front of the ship with a frozen drink to hear the first horn blast and watch her move out of PC.
