This morning i was finally put on Blood Pressure tablets(extremley high since March),but my problem is my Doctor has also changed my contraceptive pill from Microgynon to Micronor.I have gotten home+read the leaflet provided and to be honest i am not liking the sound of this mini-pill.
Main question i want to ask is-how are your periods on this contraceptive pill(as i have to take this pill every day with no breaks-so how do you know when your period is going to come :confused3)-going by this leaflet+a quick internet search,it is telling me that my periods could become non-existent-which would worry me that i could be pregnant-that is a 'stress' i could do without,it tells me that my periods could be extremely irregular-as in bleed for anything from 1 day to 2 weeks,i really don't like the idea of being out somewhere, swimming or on holiday etc..and all of a sudden get my period.Because there is no break with these tablets-how on earth do i know when i am going to get my period?.
I know everyone is different but would like to hear your views on this mini-pill asap as i have been told to stop taking my Microgynon straight away+start the Micronor tomorrow morning-i really don't know what to do :confused3.

p.s.i have phoned my Doctor's surgery+explained to the receptionist that it is worrying me+am now waiting for my Doctor to ring me back-but that was over an hour ago.

What is this injection i have heard of women taking?.Because of my Blood Pressure this is why my pill has been changed as my Doc believes it is the cause of it, so this is the only pill i can take my Doc said.x.

Hi,
Before I start can i just point out everyone is different and this is just my experience !!!
I took microgynon for years with no issues but then like you suddenly got changed because of health issues to micronor - the first week was fine but then I turned into jekyll and hyde never knowing what mood i was going to wake up in !! I was seriously all over the place!
Like you say you dont take a brak so periods were an issue for me i went through a time where i had none then all of a sudden i was constantly on my period !!
For me there was never a question that i could i be pregnant the micronor stopped me wanting sex anyway !!:rotfl2:
I think you should giveit a go and see how u get on for me ive decided i prefer not to take any pill than put up with the side eefects of this !!
Good point was that i lost loads of weight whilst taking it and ate like a horse !!!
Give it a go and if you like you can pm me and ill be happy to answer any questions if ican
Louise x

Hi Michelle

I'm not taking that particular one but I am taking Cerazet (sp?) which is similar, now I didn't even know that you weren't supposed to have a break from it and I took a break and ended up having two periods in one month and a pregnancy scare as my Dr told me I wasn't protected while I wasn't taking it! To say I was totally shocked would have been an understatement.

when I visited the Dr she said that as you are taking a continual supply of pills with no break very few people actually get a bleed at all and you may only spot occasionally for a couple of days, no major period at all.

I have also taken the injection that you are talking about - Depo Provera - and I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole, I ended up depressed and having panic attacks because of it, obviously everyone is different, but one thing I would say is that it lasts for 3 months so once it's in you it's in you, there is no going back.

Thank you both so much for your comments .
From reading your comments, and finding a Doctor's Q&A webpage,i have decided to NOT take this pill(or the injection-apparantly it can do the same thing with your periods)for the time being. The side effects that some people have suffered whilst taking Micronor was worrying-hair loss, severe depression, temper, crying+non existent periods to name a few.So i am going to have a small break for now,i am hoping that after today's blood tests they can get to the root of my high blood pressure+if it is'nt from my pill hopefully the Doc will let me go back to my Microgynon.

p.s.-i find it strange that after taking Microgynon for 15yrs,my blood pressure has only become sky high since March this year :confused3,can that happen?,which makes me think it could be something else :sad2:.I have never suffered with high blood pressure, not even through my pregnancies.I hope there is'nt something more to it-i know i am a worrier but i can't help it :sad2:.
Thanks again Ladies,much appreciated :flower3:.x.

I feel like I am butting here, as I don't know you and don't post here, but I have had the same problem in the past. :)

I was taken of Microgynon after years of being very happy with it, because my GP decided that it was affecting my blood pressure (and in my case my weight) too much to be healthy. By the time I was taken off Microgynon I had put on more than 5 stone. :guilty: I was put on Cerazette (which is like Micronor in regards to what it does to your cycle and the possible side effects) and hated it, I'm glad you are steering clear as it was really awful being on it, I got all the side effects and my cycle was the most irregular it's ever been (a real worry as you never know when you are going to come on :( )

I know a few people who have had the injection, but it can go either way, I know some people who haven't had a period in years, but I know another woman who has the injection and is almost constantly having a period. :O I think it's a risk to take the injection as you don't know how it's going to affect you. The same with the implant, I know a few people who've had that, but it means that you probably won't get a period either, so not a good idea for you. :)

My doctor has never allowed me to go back on Microgynon, it's by far the best thing ever, but I doubt I will ever be allowed it again. :(

I hope that your blood pressure improves soon and you get Microgynon again.

If you have been taking the pill for a long time your dr will want you to change to the mini pill anyway, apparently it is safer health wise to do so. I have tried the mini-pill but worried about taking it at the same time everyday as I often forgot and then worried that I wouldn't be protected.

I would recommend the IUD coil. once fitted you have protection for 5 years, some are even for 10 years now. period pains and heavy periods are diminished. might be worth asking your doc?

No,please don't feel like your butting in,i am grateful for your opinion :flower3:.
I also have weight issues, when on my pill i gain weight :sad2:+in the past when i have had my breaks-like your supposed to on the pill i lose weight .So me gaining weight is also not great+could also be the cause of my high blood pressure-so i know what you mean :thumbsup2.
I am also glad that i have decided to not take the new pill,as i am hearing more bad things about it now(but i know it does'nt affect everyone),another reason i am glad i did'nt take it as i am suffering with some mild side effects from my new blood pressure tablets :sad2:.Thanks again.x.

Thanks Andrea, yes i have had breaks in the past-not changed to a different pill-just stopped altogether.
Also what worried me about Micronor is you only have a 2hr window to take it for it to work effectively. Now i always used to take my old pill between 7-8am,but there are times when i have forgotten although rare, and have'nt taken it until lunchtime-but i know that i was still safe, with Micronor it reduces the safety of it working by up to 50% :scared1:.
My neighbour recommended the coil to me yesterday, but i have'nt looked it up yet, thanks again.x.

Just wanted to join in here as I'm obviously about to restart using contraception in a few weeks. I was originally put on Mycrogynon at about 14 but it had a terrible effect on my moods so my GP went through about 4 different pills with me. I eventually settled with one called Cilest which has been great for me. Still got periods but they were very accurate and lighter, plus no real mood swings, you do have the week's break taking the pills with that one. It's reasonably flexible in terms of taking it at a specific time and it allows you to run 2 packs together (infrequently) so you can miss a period now and again which i've done to avoid having one when a holiday/family event was scheduled.

I was originally planning on switching to the implant after baby so I didn't have to think about taking pills but I'm concerned about having a bad reaction, same with the jab. I also know with the jab at least that if I didn't react well, I'm stuck for 3 years. I now think I'm gonna go back on Cilest but will discuss it with my GP once baby is born as I've switched surgerys during the pregnancy.

It's strange the way we all react differently though, my sister tried every pill out there and ended up not having anything as she got terrible mood swings on absolutely all of them!

I agree I would not advise anyone to take this. It makes your hormones all over the place. It can also cause osteoporosis. There is loads of legal cases against the company who makes it. It also takes alot longer than 3 months to clear out of your system, it can take anywhere up to a year.

Honestly I was terrible on this injection, it was the month before our wedding and my Grandma commented that I was more like someone planning a funeral than a wedding! :rotfl:

Once I stopped having it I then had a constant heavy bleed for around 6 weeks, and none of the Dr.s were able to say why.

DH had the snip in July so I am pleased that after October / November and he is given the all clear I won't have to worry about this issue anymore!

Please don't think me strange DD has just asked me to included the dancing banana

I just told him! :lmao:

Seriously though, we have been together for 15 years and we just feel that our family is complete with two, we have a girl and a boy so we don't really "need" anymore kids plus our business is doing well and that needs some attention now. Also I have been on the pill, injection etc for the last 15 years and I told him that I thought it was his turn to take on the birth control now, he has mentioned that if we split up that I have rendered him useless to female kind though :lmao:

Both of ours start some kind of playgroup / nursery this week so life is just about getting back to normality, I couldn't imagine going back to sleepless nights and bottle feeding! :scared1:
