We are going to an outdoor wedding reception in Cleveland, OH, this Saturday at 7 pm. It is supposed to be 51 degrees and raining. The backup plan is to smash everyone in the house, which I think will result in most if not all of the people still outside in the cold and rain. The outfit I was planning on wearing is not going to work with the weather. Is black still considered a wedding no-no? I have a pair of shoes that would go with a dress that would go with a wrap that are all black. I really wanted to wear Spring colors but not in Cleveland in May I guess.

Thanks!

My MIL has worn black to all of her children's weddings except ours... she wore WHITE! OK, so that's no testament to the appropriateness of wearing black. ;)

Seriously, there is absolutely no problem wearing black to a wedding, or anywhere else, for that matter... provided that the dress wasn't purchased in 1984 and that it isn't too short with ruffles around the bottom. (Someone wore this last weekend to my SIL's wedding... the lady in this danced all night.)

Hopefully, the homeowner will rent some of those outdoor heaters to keep everyone outside and under the tent.

Black is more than fine now at weddings. My sister just was married a few weeks ago and there was a percentage of black worn (even excluding the bridesmaids) and even by my sister's MIL (and I KNOW she wasn't 'mourning' ;)). So I say you ought to go ahead and wear it :)

Black is a standard "neutral" at weddings anymore.

(Pssst: just a hint, if you're doing an outdoor wedding, go with flat shoes...heels tend to sink into the lawn/mud).

Denise < --- solved the wedding color dilemma wayyyy back in 7-81: I wore white, bridesmaids wore white; sister & sister-in-law wore white.... ;)

Black is fine especially considering it is an evening wedding. It might be nice if you could find a bright (not pastel) scarf or wrap just to spice it up a bit.
