Ladies (or Gents) what's the most you have ever paid for a purse?

I think the most I've spent was $800, on a Gucci handbag, but I also sometimes manage to convince my mom to "hand down" some of her older purses, like this Christian Dior black leather saddle bag that I LOVE. (I've been eyeing her Hermes Kelly, but I know better than to hold my breath for that one!) I'm seriously addicted to bags, but now I try to wait for Neiman and Saks to go on sale before making any "impulse" purchases. :p

I wouldn't even know half of these designers being named on this thread-I guess that's good for me, then I won't want one. (I could never spend the equivalent of a mortgage payment for a purse!!!)

Just to share something with y'all, I once stood in back of a woman at a grocery store who pulled food stamps out of her LV bag. I think it was real, but I am hoping it wasn't!!

You must have bought one of the knock-offs. My cousin told me "When you go to New York, you have to whisper in the ear of the Vendor "I am looking for a Louis Vuitton" and they will bring out a bag of them". She said they are $35 and they are knock-offs.
That's okay, if I buy a LV, it will HAVE to be a knock-off because there is no way I will spend that much on a bag.

Of course, at that price it's a knock-off. You really don't have to whisper in anyone's ear. On Canal St. in NYC those designer bags are being sold out in the open in small shops. After we got our knock-offs we saw the same LV bags in Saks 5th Ave priced $700-$900. I would never pay that amount of money for a real one. The friend I was with really wanted to go buy the knock-offs and I ended up buying some too. Before that trip, I never owned a designer bag- fake or real. Never mattered to me. I think these purses are just a status symbol for women.

I also have the "It" Bag. I have the Alto Mini Tassel in Sky Blue and the Bucket. Both of them are the white background. I also have the matching umbrella. I am a D&B junkie.

The most I have ever spent is $225.

Funny story I was sitting at a meeting with the School Superintendent and the other PTA Presidents. The Superintendent looks down the table and starts commenting on my bag. It turns out his wife wants one. LOL!!

You do realize though, that they aren't the same bags. Canal St. really does have the best looking knockoffs that I've seen at a quick glance, but they AREN'T going to last as long as the real things.

For instance, my first expensive bag that I bought myself was a black Kate Spade in 8th grade. I wore that bag every day to school from 8th grade til senior year of high school. The bag isn't even frayed in the corners, the strap hasn't lost its shape, and the only thing that is wrong with it is that it's a little dirty. All of my designer bags hold up wonderfully. The knockoff louis usually don't hold their shape like the real ones, and I've known many a handle to rip off them with normal use.

I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for". Sure, the designer bags are overpriced, but they hold up well.

$5 or 6 grand has nothing on this bag....

I remember flipping through one of Tanya's issues of vogue when she pointed out to me what appeared to be a red alligator skin purse. I thought it looked neat and figured it was probably around 2 grand or so, then I read the fine print... I guess this purse is the holy grail. I don't remember the name of it, but let's just say I could buy myself my new 2005 ford mustang AND Chevrolet SSR truck with the price.

It was a Hermes, and it cost $90,000!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another Brighton fan. I have the best Mother-in-law in the world. Over the past 7 years she has bought me three of these purses and they are all in excellent condition. Last year she went all out and bought me 2 pieces of Brighton luggage for Mother's day. I myself never paid over $40 for a purse, but now I'm hooked onto Brighton and may one day have to purchase one myself. Love their belts and watches too!

DD LOVES D & B! I bought her the Wide Tassle "IT" bag in Mint Green for Christmas (online @ www.dooney.com), along with the key fob, coin purse & cosmetic case! The style is addicting. Now, I'm considering some "IT" products for myself! ::yes::

Even the NEW Backpack has a MICKEY MOUSE shape/design!!

Yes, I realize they're not the same bags:rolleyes:
And they're holding up just fine. I don't want a bag that lasts years and years. I get tired of it and get a different one. I feel sorry for my sister-in-law whose been carrying the same D&B for years now. It looks old and worn. She can't afford to get the real thing again. God forbid she ever carry a purse that wasn't a designer one. My friend bought her a knock-off Coach from NYC and now she uses that one. I definitely have the money to buy the real one but I choose not to.

I'm so rough on my purses, I can't see paying a lot. But I spend it on a brief case! One I bought several years ago was over $100. Just bought a beautiful one a couple weeks ago...used it for an interview today first time. :teeth: I paid $60. I know that's pretty reasonable for a brief case, but considering I haven't worked in a couple years, it's expensive! LOL! ;)

I paid 20 bucks for a black leather knapsack from Wal Mart, looks great and holds up well(and I clipped a Austin Powers keychain to it)

That's good for you then, if you know you get sick of bags easily there's no point in spending hundreds of dollars on purses. I have no problem carrying the same Burberry I've had for the past couple of years. Then again, I tend to buy bags (except the pink one) in traditional colors and patterns that I know aren't going to go out of style.

Forgive me, but the way you put your post made it seem like you saw the same Louis bags in Saks. I just get sick of people telling me "it's the same bag I saw on Canal Street, why would you pay all that money for the same thing?" when in reality it isn't. I thought that's the point you were trying to make, sorry :)

of course, you realize that labelled a fake with a LV or Prada ID is illegal.

Canal Street is aone huge "gray market."

Dreamflight, thanks for showing me that. What a great looking backpack!! I wouldn't mind that in the circle purse.

;) You're welcome!~I think it's just the CUTEST thing! Very whimsical. I just heard something on the news last week (as we have a HUGE Grey Market in Los Angeles too...quite a problem), in regards to the DESIGNERS going after the "knock-off's" with a "PASSION." They are tired of having to try and stay "one step ahead" of the pirating "copy-cats" by changing the designs and profiles of their bags, etc. ::yes:: Hope they are successful. :D

of course it is....still doesn't stop people from buying/selling through.

My brother and mother were at some "store" on canal street when all of a sudden steel curtiains come crashing down over the merchaindise - cops were coming.

Of course - I say that I as have 3 "furberry", a "Frauda", 2 "foach", and 4 "Fouis" purses and could run my own "grey market" out of my spare bedroom closet. Let's not even get into all the "Fiffany" I own..(or "Ti-phoney" if you like. heheh)

who cares? I have a few "real" pieces of jewelry - but I change my mind more then I change my underwear - I could care less if the bag I'm carrying is "real" or not...I just like the style of it.

Of course - I really like Nine West purses - some say that's crap - I could care less.

Ladies, be careful out there when you are buying those counterfeit bags! I saw an undercover thing about the "parties" they have-selling the fakes like tupperware. They are starting to crack down on that, so watch out!! Wouldn't that be something to have a group of about 20 middle-upper class women get busted for that!!! What would the society pages do with that picture?!!

I have been eyeing that D&B backpack ever since my catalog came yesterday-I want it in "Grape"!! Toooooo cute-and at $210, a steal by the standards on this thread!!!!:)

After reading this post I said a silent prayer thanking God I'm not a woman. :teeth:
