OK...I have a problem concerning my "time of the month". OK guys that opened this anyway.....go away!!!

I have had a VERY VERY heavy period this month with some clotting involved. This is very abnormal for me. Normally day two is the worst but this time everyday so far is very heavy where I have to "change" about every hour to and hour and a half. I do not have any pain other than the normal feeling of feeling full and bloated. A few little cramps yesterday but not bad at all. What is so mind blowing to me is that everytime I use the restroom there is a clot anywhere from the size smaller than a golf ball to the size of a marble. A co-worker said this could be an early sign that I may need a hystorectomy. I am 44 and have an 8 yr old child I do lots of heavy lifting at work.

Any ideas????

I had one time that was that way. I was in the middle of a very, very emotionally stressful situation at that point. I wouldn't have thought it could make that kind of a difference physically, but it did. I called my doctor, and she assured me that that was what it was. The next month was back to normal. I would call my doctor just to be sure though.

Not being a medical professional I don't have any clues - I would contact and get an appt with your OB/GYN they would be best at diagnosing you.

The size of the clot would concern me....call the Dr.

I have had similar big changes in the amount of bleeding. I spoke to the doctor and some other women who were older and was told this is normal. Basically, we are getting into the perimenopausal time of life. Woo Hoo. :sad2:
I loved being told that.
Lots more changes coming and none of them fun. I would still speak to your doctor though. Even though mine was extremely heavy for a day or so, the rest of the week was much lighter than normal. Good luck.

Agree with all the above posters. Calling your doctor is the best thing you can do.

Myst

I would definitely call your OBGYN. At first, I was going to ask you if you were in the process of trying to get pregnant, and if this could be an early miscarriage. But another issue that came to mind is that you could have a clotting disorder. I'm not a medical doctor by any means, but after I had our dd, when we were trying to get pregnant again, they diagnosed me as clotting too much in my system. (I had the exact same type of periods as you.) It's not as major as it sounds, I just have a medication that I need to take daily (it's actually more like a boosted up multi-vitamin) to thin out my blood. But now that we are pregnant again, I have to take Lovenox shots (anti-coagulant) every day during my pregnancy. (My dr. said I would only have to do this during pregnancy, not at any other time.)

It definitley could just be an off month, but it is at least something you want ot bring up to your dr. Good luck!

My Dr. told me this is normal for me. I have this on day 2 and on day 4. Ever since I have been 12 yrs old. On day 1 & 2 I have extreme cramping, day 3 is liveable and for a few hours on day 4 I have cramping again. I'm 44. On my last visit a year ago, my new GYN told me she could put me on birth control-I looked at her and said are you kidding, I am over weight, I don't smoke, but yet I have experienced clotting my whole life. She told me then I just have to live with it.

I would call your doctor as well. I had this off and on for almost a year and finally had a hysterectomy at 33 and it was the best thing I ever did. The condition made me anemic and it happened slowly at first like you are going through and then the last few months before my hysterectomy it happened for the whole week. I would definitely call your doc. It sounds to me as if you are in the early stages of menopause as well.

Good luck but definitely call your ob/gyn today if possible.

The last couple of periods before my hysterectomy were like the one you're having. If I hadn't already been scheduled for the hysterectomy for other reasons I would have been asking for one!

If you're done with kids and having menstrual issues, I'd recommend talking to your doctor about one. The recovery time is significant, but when I compared a couple of months of surgical recovery to 10 or so years period-free, my decision was made easier.

Is there any way you could have been pregnant? That's exactly what my body did when I miscarried. I haven't quite gotten to "that time of life" so can't offer advice concerning menopause (I'm fast approaching it, though).

Your symptoms make me wonder if you've ruled out pregnancy/miscarriage. Definitely call your doctor.

Fibroids can cause heavy bleeding and clotting. www.mayoclinic.com has some good info on fibroids.

I had to have a hysteretomy because of a large fibroid and your symptoms are exactly like mine were, only mine went on for too long.

Please get a checkup . A gyn can easily detect fibroids and uterus changes. Be sure you are taking a one a day vitamin. You are losing iron.

herc.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I wrote this while on break at work(a school) but because of content I could not reply or read the replies. Now that I am home I was just now able to read them.

I will make an appointment with my Dr. I need to anyway.

I've had similar issues ever since I got my tubes tied.. usually on day 2 & 3. I've discussed it with my OB/GYN twice & was told it was normal. I'm actually considering going on Seasonal (sp?) not for the BC but so I only have to deal with it 4 times a year! Good luck.

Please call your ob/gyn.....especially if you are experiencing any in between period spotting or if your periods are much longer than normal.... It is probably normal and will turn out to be perimenopause, a fribroid or polyp, but there could also be a more serious problem. The only way to be certain is to have a ******l sonogram and find out the thickness of the uterus....to rule out hyperplasia which can be a precursor to uterine cancer.

I had the same thing happen to me!! I ended up getting a D&C and then got put on the pill and since then have been just fine...I hate taking the pill and actually am stopping this month just to see how it goes...

I've had some of the same problems since having DD6, but it has been every month for the past six years. The pill helped before DD but when I tried them again they didn't help at all. It runs in my family and every woman in my family who has had the problem ended up with a hysterectomy. I will not have a hysterectomy because of my family's history of cancer. My doctor told me about a procedure called NovaSure that will reduce or stop my problems. It is an outpatient procedure that I'm getting next Friday and will be back at work the next Monday.
