Hi everyone! I just want some imput if you please! This is my 1st trip to Disney and I am going in August. I hear hot, humid, sticky all the time.
As I am bottom heavy(though I hope all my walking will remedy the rubbing thigh issue soon! ;) ) I was thinking capris is the way to go, my friend says no, bermudas and shorts are fine just use some glide thing that runners use to avoid chaffing.(I haven't used shorts in 10 years, eeek:scared1:)
My thighs chaff big time, I'm doing squats and walking(in capris) but to be honest I don't think this chaffing thighs problem is gonna just go away in time for the trip. I am trying to be realistic about the changes my body is going through and my weight loss progress...should I just focus on wearing capris or do you think this glide thing will do the trick? Shorts seem tempting but I hate chaffing.....Imput my new found friends ,please!

As another sufferer of thigh chub-rub, I say that any shorts that don't cover the friction producing areas of the leg aren't going to be comfortable or attractive.

If they are too short I get the one sided leg roll where one leg of the shorts rolls up into an awkard wedgie-like thing. I end up having to pull it back into place every 10-15 steps. Not appropriate for a general audience!

I just bought some 12" Dipper Shorts on www.athleta.com. I'm 5'3" and those babies land just above my knee. They are a little lower rise on my tummy than I'm used to but not inappropriate for a 43 yo. I liked that the legs of the shorts weren't too thin to get my sausage shaped thighs into but also didn't add bulk to an area that really has plenty of that already!:sad2:

Since I'm short already, I do find that some capris make me look shorter. I'd vote for longer bermudas or city shorts.

Also, I'm a runner and Body Glide works great! However, I wouldn't like to have to keep it with me to smear on when just touring around. I know that after a long run I can't wait to wash that stuff off! It's better than Vaseline but still feels kind of slimy to me.
Good luck!

We just went 2 weeks ago, and I brought shorts, but mostly wore capris. I have a couple pairs that go just below my ugly knees, and find I am more comfortable in them than shorts, and I don't think they are any hotter than shorts. One pair is the nylon running type material, non-stretchey, and very cool, and my other favorite pair is denim. I know it wasn't as hot as in august, but I think you'd be fine in capris.

Have you considered skirts? The friction issue may be too much with them but I do think that they look more attractive than shorter shorts do on me. A nice skirt hides the fact that my thighs rub together and can make me ALMOST look thin!

I second the skirt idea. I wear only skirts long ones and "normal" ones (cant get behind the ones that show my behind though). Anyway, I throw on a pair of compression shorts underneath. Since I am wearing a skirt, you cant see any sign of a sausage problem (aka your legs look like sausages in tight shorts) and it covers all the delicate skin without have the fun full thigh wedgie issue you mentioned.

What kind of shorts do you use? Are they athletic or those Spankx (spelling?) things? I never really thought of that but it sounds like a good idea.

I'm another one for skirts or even a skort. I was thinking about looking or a couple light sundresses for my August trip too. I use Body Glide every trip, it's saved my life a few times. I remember not having it and about crying over friction burns that put a damper on the rest of the trip.

I'm 5'2". I wear capris EVERY time I go to Disney World. I don't even own a pair of shorts because I Despise my thighs rubbing together. I just try to find a pair of thin linen type capris to wear so I don't get too hot. It's never been an issue at any time of year.

Biker shorts underneath is the ONLY way I can wear a skirt for that many hours witht hat much walking. As long as I have biker shorts underneath, I am A-ok!

I'm a big fan of bermudas, just because I can bend in any direction without worrying about showing anything. I also wear skirts to the parks, but I'm always more comfortable in shorts.

I use deodorant instead of body glide, it's always worked fine for me. I told my best friend about the trick, and she still thanks me every once and awhile.

I hope you can get rid of the chaffing, no matter how small I am mine will never go away because of my knocked knees. Maybe if I was 100 pounds, but if I ever dropped down to that I would have way bigger problems than thigh chaffing.:scared:

Capris win... I love being right! I just wanted you experienced ladies help me get this girl off my back! I do love my capris and you are right they cover in all the right places.
As for looking short you are right about that as well but at 5'1 there is no hiding my shortness :rotfl:
I have aquired quite a few capris over the years but I am happy to announce that as I lose(slowly but surely) and I exercicse(My shape is changing) I have to go shop. I plan on waiting to go mid July maybe I'll find some good clearence deals. ( Maaayyyybe a smaller size?) ;)
Well anyway thank you all for your imput...talk to you soon.

I guess they are technically athletic. I buy the cheap cotton blend ones. They are $5 or $10 at walmart and last for years.

I started wearing them when I hit puberty, not for chub rub, but rather since I wasn't very girly (still not), so I would sit Indian style and such and show panties. Modesty kicked in at 12 or so and I stared putting them under skirts, so I could still be "me" and wear girly things. Now of course I still sit Indian style, but I also have chub-rub so it is an extra special trick I have! :lmao:

I'm another who prefers capris. I even wore them when I was heavy, and I am just too self-conscious to wear shorts. I wear skorts that are quite short to exercise, and I really like them. I am the opposite extreme from the one who always wears a skirt. I hardly ever wear a skirt. I never wear a skirt to work, because it always gets caught under the wheels of the stool I use when I do a pelvic exam on a patient. I don't wear skirts short enough or tight enough not to get caught. Pants never get caught. So, I have a couple nice skirts/dresses to wear for special occasions or to church, and that's it.

Interestingly, I never had the problem with chafing, not even when I was at my heaviest. I guess I carried my weight funny.

I wore capris every single day at WDW last vacation.
I love them.

Also: another time, at DL, I wore skorts. Sometimes, when I had to climb in/ out a vehicle, my skort was a little too short... I didn't feel that comfortable!
No issues like that with capris.

And also: when going into a restaurant, capris look more "dressed up".

Ok Ladies...My thoughts. I agree w/ everyone! When we go, I have normally worn capris, but I'm so short (5'1) that sometimes w/ my tennis shoes they look like short pants. I am a huge fan of skorts!!! I got one from Wal-mart for my upcoming trip. It's cute. I also was very hesitant to try bermudas. I've had shorts that come just to the top of my knee and they look HORRIBLE! I found a style at Target that are thin and just cover my knee and actually look pretty descent. I'll be wearing these for my trip in 2 weeks. I was so suprised how the bermuda's looked on me. I thought it would be horrible, but they are actually pretty good! :thumbsup2 I also found some dressier ones that come just below my knee and are cuffed so I hope I can get away w/ wearing those to work!

Have fun!
Stacie

I love capris. I only own one pair of shorts and I wear those to yoga and that's it. Capris are so comfortable.

I think capris will be fine the later in August the more so but I'm sure the "comfort" will help. I wore them in Sept and did just fine. I don't have that many chaffing problems but I sweat badly behind the knees in hot weather so I have been known to wear PANTS(jeans usually) to Disney in the summer YES. :lmao: But capris were better yet. Something light that will dry quickly for those "wet" rides.

Oh and dd's father swears by deodorant for chaffing which he did a lot. I used it once when I did have some on panty line and it worked great and felt better in the morning. Put it on before and it also helps if you do have any to put it on at night. It also works well for mosquito bites. ;)

My thought on capris is this, I personally do not care for them, because they cut the line of your leg, off. As a result, no matter how tall that you are, these pants, make you look shorter. So, if you are very tall, and would like to give the appearance of being less tall, then I would wear them. Or of course if you don't care about that sort of thing, and you won't be scaring anyone by wearing them, like I would right now, just wear them, if you love them and you are that comfortable wearing them. I prefer to be as comfortable as possibe, as often as possible, that is the name of the game, but I like to look at least decent, while doing so. Maybe one day, I will look great! until then, I settle for decent. ;)
