I do not mean to freak anyone out, just stating the facts (reminds me of Jack Webb)

Seriously. DIL has her own cleaning business. One of her long standing clients is a female doctor who has battled breast cancer.

This doctor went to a convention in Washington DC a few weeks back. This convention was geared toward breast and other types of cancer.

After she came back from the convention DIL (Kinga) was at her house cleaning when she asked Kinga "didn't you tell me your MIL loves milk" (Kinga and DGD hate milk). Kinga told her "yes", MIL drinks milk all the time.

Judy (Dr.) told her that hormones in milk definately cause breast cancer, colon cancer and possibly other types of cancer (this was the main topic at the convention), and that the only company who guarantees that their cows (which they own and do not get milk from a cow "pool") is Oberweiss. Luckily, we have Oberweiss here in the midwest (out of Aurora Illinois).

For those of you who do not have access to Oberweiss, please start doing some checking. If I can find out more info, I will pass it along.

PS Judy said women and girls can get their calcium from orange juice.

Interesting.......an RN (that I ran into into the course of my NON-medical job) told me that a couple of years ago when we somehow got in a conversation about how my DD (then 13) really didn't like /wouldn't drink milk. She said "that's OK, have her get calcium from fortified OJ and other sources, the milk in this country is suspect as a cancer cause, due to the additives and cow nutrition"

The only milk I like is buttermilk, and I only drink it a couple of times a month. Thanks for the info, Marilyn.:) You can also get calcuim from certain other foods-I think broccoli is one of them.

I take calcuim pills, i dont like milk. The only time i drink it is with cookies or if it is chocolate/straberry milk.

we go thru about 2 or more gallons aweek in our house of four, and i have drank it all my life. i will research this further thanks for info:( it could be like the eggs thing a few yrs back. you know whre they were bad for you and all

I haven't been able to drink milk since I was about 8 so I take a calcium supplement instead. I think I'm very glad :)

buttermilk browneyes yuk yuk yuk:confused:

This is why I stopped drinking milk. I used to go through 2 gallons a week. Now I can hardly bring myself to drink a small glass.
They do have hormone free milk at most grocery stores.

I only drink Milk in my White Russians, so thats not too much.;)

My household goes through about 5 gallons a week, I guess I'll reasearch this I little more....:(

There are a few states that it is illegal to use rBGH in dairy products.
Luckily VT is one of them.
Any milk, cheese, Ice cream or other Dairy Products made in VT are rBGH Free.

browneyes...Buttermilk???? I have never known anyone who wasn't a senior to drink it. Gee I should go tell my Daddy that I know a pretty young girl who goes by the name of browneyes that will drink buttermilk with them.;) Talk about making a heart skip a beat, hehe:D :D :D :D :D :D

My inlaws were/are big milk advocates.... I HATE milk..... we drink water with our meals (even dh who was brought up on milk) and my inlaws had a hard time dealing with that when Megan came along..... I got tired of hearing, "Milk is so good for her.... she needs it for bone development blah blah blah" I said, "You're right- milk is a PERFECT food.........IF YOU'RE A BABY COW!" end of discussion. We get our calcium from other sources.

Milk has all kinds of nasty stuff in it, as do most of the animal products we eat. I strongly believe that our diets are one of the primary reasons that little girls develop so young and the high cancer rates. I try to buy organic produce, but the only store that has organic meat around here is so expensive. Our society really needs to start insisting that we're not going to buy that garbage that fills the grocery stores. Until then, the healthy food is going to be so expensive that it's literally unatainable for many families. :(

Isn't this sad. Kermit, I agree with everything you said. I read that 52% of the cows in this country are shot with hormones or low doses of antibiotics, and nobody has to tell you which ones they are. No wonder kids have to go to the doctors 40 zillion times to get antibiotics that work for them, they're od'ing on it daily and don't even know it. :(

There is also a theory that plastics are causing accelerated development. Actually, the plastics theory has more of a basis in medical fact than this does. If rGBH is the cause for accelerated development, why are young girls in Africa and Eastern Europe developing even more quickly than American girls? They don't base their diets on cows' milk. One of the scariest tendencies of media-savvy Americans is to spread unsubstantiated fear. Obesity is a major issue, but never in any society in the history of man have people eaten as broad and vitamin-rich a diet as Americans can in 2002, organic or not. I would advise anyone who believes that grocery stores and American culture are inherently unhealthy to take a visit to any developing country on Earth, and study the diet there. I think he or she might feel differently upon return.

We have known this was a possibility for years...ever since the producers decided they wanted to feed BGH to their cows to increase milk production. That is why we only use organic milk and milk products at our house. And if there is a good soy alternative, I will get that instead. We also do not eat beef or pork, or anything made from cows and pigs, like jello.

Now it is just hitting the mainstream news that all the antibiotics and other chemicals being fed to pigs can be detected as pollutants in the groud and water near pig farms! Can you imagine how much junk they must be feeding to those poor animals if it is being found much farther down the chain?

I think it is amazing the nasty stuff they do to our food, and think we won't find out. I also have no respect for our government which is run by lobbyists and their special interest groups. How is this related to milk additives? Well, one of the most powerful groups, if not the most powerful group, to influence policy related to the quality and purity of our food is the Cattlemen's Association. Contrary to other reports, they claimed there was no evidence of BSE in the country, so it MUST be true, right?

Well...mom and I go for her checkup in a couple of weeks with her oncologist so I guess I'll ask him to make sure he knows what's up and he is very up on things...he has never asked mom how much milk she drinks but after her first round of chemo she found out she has osteoporosis.....
