Hey girls, I'm about to embark on the long yet exciting journey of finding a dress!! I have a couple of questions I hope you can answer. I am rather tall 5'8" and weigh about 145, I am obsessed with the big poofy, princess-y ballgowns. Would someone of my figure look okay in this type of dress? I'm just trying to narrow down my search but I guess I will just have to try different styles on. If any of you girls have the same body type as me.. which types of dresses worked best for you? Any other advice would be greatly appreciate! Thanks so much!

I think you may just have to try on all the styles :) (Don't worry - there are only about six: A line, ball gown, mermaid, sheath, empire...what am I forgetting...?). Many brides find that when they go in with a preconceived notion of what looks good on them/what they want, the dress they end up with is totally different.

I am 5'10" and fell in love with this dress, but it made me look short and dumpy:

It turns out a ballgown - which I absolutely did not want - looked the best on me!

So I say, try it all on! You'll quickly get a sense of which styles look best on you....

i'm just like you!!! i'm 5'9 and when i started wedding dress shopping i was nearing 130...my measurements are crazy, my hips are 7 inches bigger than my bust...so a ballgown was really my only option...i could have tried for a trumpet or a sheath, but i didn't want to have to "stuff." when you order a true ballgown, you don't even have to worry about your hip size :cool1: ! i'm on dress #2 and they are both poofy ballgowns!!! hth!

Try them all on!! Prancing around in wedding dresses all day is so much fun!! And you will definately know when you've found the one...you will look like this:cloud9:

I had ALWAYS wanted a Cinderella, huge, big, poofy dress. I am a good bit heavier than you (170) and quite shorter than you (5'1")..... I tried on about 10 poofy dresses and had no luck....I hated a few of them because they made me look REALLY short....I did like 4-5 of them, but it just didn't feel like "the dress". My consultant at David's Bridal brought another one for me to try on and i refused. I told her it was ugly, i hated halter, and i wanted white... She insisted I try it on, so i did. When i came out and looked in the mirror i just knew it was THE DRESS!!!! It is white satin, halter neckline with embroidery and beads and crystals on the neckline and down into the bodice, has a deep V neckline, medium length train, and has a navy blue sash around the waist (empire waist) that ties in the back and flows down the train. Kinda hard to picture. If you are interested click the link in my siggy - the pic of me in my dress is on the first page of my pre trippie.

Good luck!

Funny you should say that about how you ended up with a different dress than u thought...i did too. i actually ended up with the exact opposite of what i had originally wanted. i originally wanted a strapless pickup skirt with a short train and i ended up with a cap sleeve no pick up with a rather large train lol...which is why my advice remains TRY ON EVERYTHING:goodvibes

I ended up with opposite of what I went looking for and what I thought I wanted. I said I was going to get a white dress, poofy skirt, and it definately HAD TO have sleeves (I hate showing my arms!) Well, after trying on a bunch of that style, which looked horrible, my sis talked me into trying an ivory strapless/sleevless dress with red on it. (It is David's style #E8052) I fell in love with it when I put it on. Everyone in the store was telling me how much nicer it looked than the others that I had tried too. Good luck and have fun!!!

i agree with most of the girls...try different types on!!!

for your height & size I think you could go poofy & big if you like....if you have some bridal magazines....rip out the pages of the ones you like...if theres one that stands out...call the shops & see who has it & go try it on..& bring the other pics in case the other doesnt work out!!!

GL & have fun!!!
