Am i crazy? Has anyone else out there bought a dress without trying it on first??!

I saw it online and LOVED it. But none of the stores near me carries it. So i had RK Bridal order it. I hope it looks ok on me! I hope it doesn't look cheap in real life. It was only $460 so it's not THAT crazy of a gamble I guess. But I won't see it for a few more months! Should I buy another gown at David's Bridal as a backup? They're having a sale -- $99 gowns!

I'm going to TRY and post a picture of it here -- just because i LOVE seeing everyone else's gowns -- but I don't know if I've figured out this image posting thing yet...

good luck with that! :) One of the gowns I really liked was an Alex Hanson and no one in the West carries it. I could have ordered it blind, but didn't want to risk it...

who is the designer?

btw, you have to upload your pic somewhere like shutterfly, photobucket, snapfish, etc., then you can post it!

c

p.s. did you try on gowns in a similar style to see if you liked it on? the only reason I ask is b/c I absolutely loved a gown in a magazine, it was totally "the one" and when I tried it on...yuck! LOL

I don't think that buying a back up at DAvid's would be a bad idea...then if your gown doesn't work out you won't be totally devasted, you'll have something you like AND either one you choose, you can re-sell it on Ebay!!!

good luck!!!

My sister made my gown and the first time I tried it on was my wedding day!

Still not working for me. :( And I really want to see. :Pinkbounc Photobucket is super easy to use. They have solved all my online photo woes. lol

yup! wow! that's very elegant! I really like the sleeves...:) I wanted sheer sleeves but that was the yuck part for me b/c I have fat arms in relation to the rest of me (a lot of button down shirts are too tight in the arms)...

that's a really awesome gown... :thumbsup2

I hope it works for you! Please keep us posted! I agree with Cryssi though. There were so many gowns I LOVED in the mags but then when I tried them on...they didn't look that good. I ended up going with a gown that was nothing like the gowns I chose in pictures! I think going with a backup is a good idea too! Just make sure you like your backup plan as much as the original! Also, how did you know what size to order? Did you have yourself measured? B/c I had to go up in size for my gown that my normal size which I think is normal b/c the gowns run smaller than regular clothes.

I bought my dress based on a picture in a bridal magazine...you couldn't even see the back. It ended up being prettier than I ever expected :thumbsup2

Had to order it from a bridal salon...no one stocked it
I still count myself luckey! Gosh, that could have been real bad :lmao:

It's beautiful!!!! I LOVE the sleeves. I was thinking about something very similar to that if I went with a wintery dress. What designer is it, if you don't mind sharing.

Yep, photobucket rocks! :thumbsup2

I know I just fell in LOVE with the sleeves! And i love that they are the focus. It's not like it has drop sleeves AND a bodice AND tons of beading. So it's princessy/medievally a bit -- but simple too. I'm 42 so i feel like I can't dress TOO princessy. Maybe queenly. Yes, this dress could belong to a queen right ;)

I don't mind sharing AT ALL. I have looked through every gown on theknot.com and weddingchannel.com and houseofbrides.com and i came across this one and loved, LOVED it right away.

It is by EDEN and it is from their VALUE collection. Meaning it was CHEAP by gown standards!! Only $460. And actually you can get it on houseofbrides.com for $349 if you're willing to find your own tailor. i didn't want to take THAt risk too :)

EDEN 5004 in white and ivory. I'm getting the ivory

PS. A wintry dress sounds amazing! you MUST post a picture one day please :) Are you getting married in Dec ?

I bought my dress just from looking at it. I knew it was perfect for me. My mom tried to talk me into a cheaper one and I wouldn't budge. LOVED IT. Mine was a Maggie dress.

absolutely...btw will you wear a crown/tiara too? b/c that would be awesome! :thumbsup2

That is a gorgeous gown!

I actually just bought my gown on eBay (fingers crossed!). It's the one dress I really liked on DavidsBridal.com...looked at it in the store...tried it on (very briefly though, as I had two kids in tow!) and then found it brand new on eBay for $150!!! The one I tried on though was a TINY bit big on me and the one I bought was a size smaller so I'd better get hopping on that treadmill!! :Pinkbounc

The nice thing about David's is that they have tons of dresses on the rack...so worst case you can pick one up later (as long as you have enough time for alterations). But if you find one you like for $99, then definitely buy it!! I'm sure you could sell it on ebay in a snap and the piece of mind is probably worth the $99 anyways!

Good luck!

that's GREAT! I've been checking out ebay too. LOVE ebay! and david's has some very pretty gowns! that's where i was originally going to go -- but then i happened across this one. You should post a pic of your gown!!!

Here is the link to my gown...I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics directly!!

I also was going to buy my daughter's flower girl dress at David's, but they told me it could take up to 16 weeks and I think I read a post on this board from someone who's dress didn't come in on time?? So, I looked online and found this dress which is half as much and I think matches my dress much better! (mine has crystal beading that hard to see in the pic)

Hope these work!
