Ladies, does your spouse/boyfriend prefer that you have long hair?

Fortunately my DH and I agree on what we like for hair length. He likes it long and always prefers longer hair (shoulder length or longer) and I do as well... actually as long as it is possible, I will never have hair shoulder length or shorter again. For me, it is so much easier to keep long. Not much to style, braid it at night so it never gets tangled, and just easier to deal with in general. THat's why I'd never go back to short & styled :)

My DH always prefered my hair short but I prefered it long and he was ok with whatever I did with it. Now that I'm over 40'ish, I much prefer my hair short. I think I look a lot better with it short and my DH really likes my new style. I also used to highlight the gray with blond but the last time I had it done, I had it done more caramel (more my "young" natural color) and I really like it that color. It seems to fit my age and skin tone. I always think that you should do whatever makes you happy with your hair. If you don't like it, no matter how many people say "Oh, I love your hair like that", you'll still hate it. So...I always had my hair my way.

DH prefers my hair shoulder length or longer, and so do I.

I don't think age has anything to do with it, as long as it's well kept and looks good.

DH hates my hair long. He keeps looking at pictures from when we started dating and it was chin length and telling me to cut it. I like it past shoulder length, because then it won't flip out at odd angles. Needless to say, I win the arguments.

This topic reminded me of something an ex-BF told me once.

His mother had hair that reached the bottom of her butt. His father LOVED her hair. She knew it.

The day after their wedding, while he was still sleeping, she got up, went to a hair salon, and got it all chopped off - we're talking so short, her new husband had more hair than she did. She did it purely to spite him over something stupid. I think it was a minor wedding planning detail.

Twenty something years later, she's still a five letter word that rhymes with "itch"...

My DH doesn't really care for really long hair. I usually keep it between my chin and shoulders (right now it's at my shoulders and I think it's too long). In highschool I kept it around mid back...I don't know how I did that! The day after our wedding, I had made an appt at the GF salon to get my hair cut about an hour or two after our plane landed!

not 40 but 40ish, its differnt with all women. You become more sexy with short hair

Wow, Jason, that was some tap dance! :teeth:

DH likes mine long rather than short, so we settle on medium length. :) Unfortunately, my hair is too fine to wear too long, but shoulder length works and looks best on me and for my type of hair.

I left my hair long for 22 years because my husband wanted it long. His grandmother never cut her hair in her life and for some reason he thought this was wonderful.

As I got closer to age 50, I started wondering if I really wanted to be like his grandmother. The answer was "no".

So, without telling him, I went and had my hair cut. Only to shoulder level but it had been past my waist before. When he came home he was dismayed and shocked and told me he hated it.

Too bad, I couldn't glue it back. Within 3 or 4 days, though, I could tell he liked it. I still keep it close to shoulder length and he no longer complains :)

My dh had always told me whatever I wanted was ok with him!! But then after always changing my hair and finally growing it long again, he decides to tell me that he has always preferred it long!! And to please NOT cut it short again!!

I've enjoyed reading all the responses; thanks everyone. I think I'll grow my hair out for a while and see how I like it--there's no risk involved since I can always just get it chopped off again whenever I want to!

Funny about the age thing. I always had very long hair till college, when I wanted to look more grown up, and I felt that cutting my hair short would do that--I've had it short ever since. It's been 10 years so maybe it would be fun to have it long again!

Yes. But it's my hair and I'll do what I want with it. I just happen to prefer it long myself.

I'm 43 years old and my hair is starting to show it's gray. It's pretty long and I have really wanted to cut it for some time.

The look on DH's face makes me wait. :)

Gee, I guess I'd have to ask my husband what his opinion is.
