I'm thinking of buying a tankini with swim shorts instead of regular bottoms. I'm in decent shape and look OK in a regular swimsuit but I'm thinking this will be good for kayaking as well as swimming. Will I look like a fuddy-duddy? (I know I shouldn't care, but I do! :rolleyes1).

Scroll about halfway down--I'm considering the Athena Jamboree racerback tp in brown with coral/multi trim and the matching brown swimshorts.

I think some of them are cute....just look in the mirror.. If you are confident in it...go for it!!
I wouldnt call them 'fuddy duddy' at all!!

I think that's a good choice. The shorts wouldn't look weird at all.

I don't think they're cute. I think boyshort panties/bottoms can be cute depending, but those don't seem like they'd be flattering to any body type to me. JMO.

I wear shorts period - with an exercise top.. I can't find a bathing suit that fits decent - because of my low weight and the fact that I have a long torso - so that's what I've been wearing for years..

Of course I'm also the sort that doesn't really care what other people think, so it's easier for me to just go with whatever I'm comfortable in..:)

I've got a great resource for you! I am in fairly good shape as well but I love the short/top combinations from Athleta.com. They are not cheap but fashionable and the quality is great!

I think they look good on my body type! I'm square, no curvy-ness at all and I think they add a little shape. Sounds odd I know, but it adds something!

They have some cute suits. I like the Maldives Bra Cup One Piece, especially since it has underwire. The company has a great return policy--I might go ahead and order! I could always put a pair of swim shorts over it for kayaking. Thanks for the recommendation.

I wear shorts with my bikini and even one-pieces. But they're very short shorts. They're for when I'm having a bad butt day. I don't think they look bad.

I wear shorts with my one piece, because in my world, every day is a bad butt day!:lmao:

Sometimes I do.

I love the suits, but they are very pricey.

I wear them at waterparks and tubing on the river. At the pool, I like the swim skirts.

I have both the Lands End swim shorts & the swim skirts with the their coordinating tops. I've got about 8 of the swimsuits in all.

I wear them because they're comfortable. I'm 5'7" & weigh 120lbs & don't look bad in a regular swimsuit...but now that I'm 40something, I just prefer to be a little more covered up.

As long as it's not a swim skirt I think you will be fine. I had tried abd tried locally to find the swimsuits with the boy shorts but all they have out in the stores around here are the swimskirts, which are right up there with fanny packs to me.

I have a pair that I love because they dry really fast. Love them when we go canoeing.

I have a suit with swim shorts. Sometimes they are great...like to wear to a theme park/water park where you will get wet. You are all set for the water, but still decently dressed to walk around the park. Very convenient.

Did not enjoy this suit at the beach, however. It chaffed. Badly.

Swim shorts don't look fuddy duddy but stay away from the swim skirts unless you are elderly- THOSE are really fuddy duddy!

I bought a tankini with shorts from JCPenney and I like it. I wanted something to make me not feel naked in public. When we go to water parks I wear black lightweight work out shorts over my old (regular) suit, so I figured why not a bathing suit short? The suits with skirts look like old lady suits to me, lol, so I figured it woull be a compromise. I've only worn it once this year though, as I haven't been to the beach much.
