Ladies, a couple of questions about your OB-GYN visits

I saw a different GYN every year for four years when I first moved because I just wasn't impressed with them to see them two years in a row. I think I have finally found one I like!

I don't know if it is a FL thing but everyone of them was a female and everyone of them had a nurse in the room during the exam.

I was under the care of a urologist for awhile and he has told me that EVERY female should have their urine tested a minimum of once a year. He claims a simple urine test is one of the cheapest medical procedures that can be done and can tell a doctor so much. I make sure I have one done when I go in for my yearly whether they require it or not.

No finger prick, no urinalysis (but my PCP does those). Mine is a male and there is no nurse in the room. I have no worries that he will do anything inappropriate.

no finger prick, no urine analysis.

My doc is a male and he has always had a nurse in the room. He comes in first and asks how everything is going, so we can discuss anything private at that time. Than he calls the nurse in, does his thing. Afterwards, I get dressed and go into his office to discuss the exam or ask questions, etc.

My Dr. (male) has the same procedure. No urine or finger prick either.

Urinalysis- No
Finger prick- No
Labwork- No

I have a female GYN and there is no nurse in there for the exam.

My internist does a urinalysis and comprehensive labwork 2x year. And I have basic labwork (CBC, CMP, Liver function) done every 10 weeks. It usually ends up that I get routine labwork (CBC, CMP) done on average about once a month.

I have had exactly 5 GYN appointments in my life, with 5 different doctors...the last two in the same practice. Never done a finger prick and never done a UA. Though my current practice will send you out for lab work if they feel it is needed.

As for the nurse in the room I have had appointments with a nurse and without.

1st time ever, male doc at the local VA and decided we didn't need a nurse since my mom was there and she was a nurse so she could observe...thanks mom.

2nd time also at the VA...female PA and no nurse present.

3rd time at a large local multi-specialty practice...saw a midwife and no nurse.

4th time at a practice recommended by my mom, nurse was present and the doc was male but boy did I like him.

5th time at the same practice but my doc was on sabbatical so I saw a female doc. Same nurse present. Almost gave the nurse a heart attack when she saw my BP. She acted like I was going to stroke out on the exam table. I didn't. I like the practice so I will keep going there.
