Lactose intollerance

One member of our traveling party has recently discovered they are lactose intollerant. I've seen folks as to speak to the chef over allergies. I'm looking for experience at counter service places. We usually mobile order. While we can delete cheese, etc to catch the obvious diary, is there a way to know if dairy is otherwise in something? The allergy menu doesn't list something like ...salad without cheese. We aren't wanting to clog already busy counterservice places with a chef conversation if there is another way to make sure something is dairy free. Thanks for your help!

In my experience, WDW will treat lactose intolerance as a dairy allergy, which is much more restrictive. I suppose it may depend on the individual’s level of intolerance but usually milk baked into an item is not a concern for lactose intolerant.

I’ve found it’s easier to just monitor it myself. Also keep in mind most quick service cannot be modified to leave off an ingredient because they don’t actually prepare the item there, it comes to the QS location already pre-made.

Thank you. I was of the impression something like cheese could be omitted when preparing something like a salad. I guess we will hope for the best.

DS20 recently outgrew his dairy allergy and my DD11 is lactose intollerant. Most of the major places have a menu that will show items that are free of a particular allergen. Like the previous poster said, it will be pretty restrictive and exclude anything with dairy. Both of my kids are ok with cheese and baked dairy, they mainly avoid straight milk, ice cream and cream sauces. My daughter will take a lactade pill before having ice cream.

DS20 is excited for his first WDW trip since outgrowing his dairy allergy.

I would use the dairy allergy menu as a guide, as it will be a bit easier - but it's going to be very restrictive. I would have the person bring Lactaid if that works for them.
Also, just in the last couple years QS will have things like a vegan cheese. With the push to have vegan choices the options are MUCH better than they used to be. You can also do mobile orders for single allergens, so they will process it for you without taking up the time to meet the chef, etc. Maybe 3 years back this was unheard of for those with allergies to have a cow free cheese, and I remember being completely turned away from QS due to dairy allergy alone just from lack of options. We would hear things like "we can feed you, but it will be just some of the kid sides" - which meant applesauce and a pack of grapes.
