Lack of Privacy?

I'm re-reading my Unofficial Guide to WDW for the millionth time. I never noticed before, but under the FW section, it lists "Lack of privacy" as a weakness of the resort. Weird.

Personally, I feel like I have a lot more privacy there than at other resorts. There is no maid coming in to clean and look at my stuff. No need to hang out a privacy please sign, either. I don't share a wall/ceiling/floor with someone so they don't know how often I go to the bathroom or what TV channel I'm watching. I don't have to eat every meal in the food court with tons of people around me listening to my conversations.

Sure, if you're outside you may not have a lot of privacy, but at certain times of the day when everyone is at the parks, you can still do pretty much as you please without people constantly coming by, unlike at the resorts where every moment it seems like someone is around.

So, is the guide right? Do you think there is a lack of privacy at the Fort?

I'm with you. We have alot more privacy at FW and there's more room to spread out and get a little more personal space when necessary.:goodvibes

It might be referring to less privacy as compared to when there was more shrubbery between the sites.

I suspect it is due to the comfort stations. Apparently public bathrooms and showers are a deal to the person writing the review.

In agreement with above. We have been to campgrounds where you would not know there is another camper near you. In time the new growth will provide more screening from neighbors.

I'd say they are a big deal to a lot of people, not just the reviewer. Obviously its not a big deal to seasoned FW people, but many people just don't want to use public showers... Personally, I'll use them, but really I'd prefer not too.

I like you disagree that the guide is wrong. At a resort just like your RV the front door is the line and at FW you have the buffer of the site which gives you even more privacy. As far as the comfort stations, that is a personal choice to use or use your RV. I use the CS for showers, but the RV for all the more important stuff so I don't feel there is any lack of privacy at FW, just the opposite a lot more privacy at FW than say at a hotel.

An even more important aspect is that in a hotel if you encounter a guest you are uncomfortable with or questionable you are sort of lost. At FW with very little work you can get their vehicle license plate for future reference if need be ... sort of getting a person's ID w/o their permission.

The UG also lists the FW cabins poorly in the category of quiet rooms. The way they tested this was to put a radio outside a room at each resort and play it loudly, and test how well you can hear the music from inside the room. With this test, the cabins fared poorly and received a bad rating. But, that is just not a realistic way to test the noise with the cabins, as there is no hallway right outside the door like there is with every other resort. That's always irked me.

I love the UG, but I wish they would fix this!

I agree with the consensus that the authors probably were referring to the Comfort Stations re: the lack of privacy. But we campers are used to far worse (at least I know I am) so the Fort's well-appointed Comfort Stations are super in my/our opinion.

I also agree with Leslie about the cabins not being rated fairly. At least you don't have other people being loud over/under/beside your room. At the cabins sitting on the porch I felt like all the outdoor view there was just mine.
