Cast of Characters:

Me ~ Birthday Girl (35)
DH ~ Wonderful man who took me to Disney (40)

Preface: We left our 4 children at home to spend a weekend alone at Disney for my 35th birthday. But before you cry “no fair!” here are our supporting arguments:

a)We have only spent one night away from the children together ever…that was 4 years ago and our oldest is now 10.
b)We are taking the children for another trip in December.
c)Our kids couldn’t wait for us to leave, because their cousins, Aunts, Uncles, and Grandparents were coming over on various days to watch them! I sense a “no rules” weekend coming…

Day 2, Saturday, August 30: It’s my BIRTHDAY!
Aaaaaaaack! What is that earsplitting din that just jolted me awake??? Oh, it’s just the wake up call at 6:15….which my husband answers and then promptly hangs up on! Oh well. Time to start the magic!

We arrive at the MK gate around 8:00, with plenty of time to stop by Guest Relations to get an MK Birthday Button before heading to Crystal Palace for our 8:05 breakfast PS. We loved this restaurant and got all the characters autographs while eating a wonderful breakfast buffet. Note to self: bring kids back here in December for Character Breakfast. They will love the food. When we returned from our first visit to the buffet, we found our table decorated with Mickey confetti and curling ribbon. After finishing our meal, our server Karen brought me a tambourine and made me lead the parade around the dining area with Eyeore! Then she brought us another birthday cupcake as well as an autographed birthday card with all the character’s signatures! Magic working big time.

Now it was off to Space Mountain. We walked right on, and then walked right on again. Cool! As we were headed to another attraction, my husband discovered (to his horror) that he had left my birthday card in the seat of our ride vehicle at Space Mountain. After being directed by a CM to go back to the beginning of the ride, and then by that CM to check at the end of the ride, we finally found it (YEAH!) and as an extra bonus, got to ride Space Mountain again during the search process.

We then experienced Alien Encounter, knowing that we would never take our children on it in the near future, and we were very disappointed. In our opinion, Disney failed miserably with this attraction. It is really too tame for adults and way too frightening for smaller children. I didn’t see any hysterical crying children, but the attraction left me less than impressed. There was nothing “fun” about it.

We went on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin next, and my husband beat the stuffing out of my score. But I SWEAR my gun was not functioning properly! It wasn’t my fault! He was lucky, this time. After Buzz, we decided to try another attraction we’d never experienced before: Tommowland Transit Authority. We loved it! It is really cool the way they built this little train ride into the other attractions. I had no idea that this train was passing through areas where I had just been! Note to self: Take kids on this ride, because they’ll get a kick out of it.

Next, we headed over to Fantasyland, which was already pretty busy. We got a Fast Pass for Peter Pan (my FAVORITE Fantasyland ride) and headed to It’s a Small World. That song really does drive you crazy after awhile. Then we walked onto Haunted Mansion before using our Fast Pass for Peter Pan. That was enough of Fantasyland for this trip!

We had to ride Pirates of the Caribbean since we’d seen the movie recently (LOVED Johnny Depp in that flick, by the way. He MADE that movie!) I love the waiting area… it is so cool and refreshing, and you just have to hum along with that tune. Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me…. I love how the movie uses the jail scene!

Another very first this trip was trying a Dole Whip! While I admit that it was very tasty, I didn’t find it exceptional or out of the ordinary. We enjoyed it very much and would definitely try one again though! It was a refreshing treat on a hot day.

We were ready to leave the crowds of the Magic Kingdom at this point and made our way to Main Street to do a little SHOPPING before heading off to Epcot for the afternoon. My husband was a good sport, I must admit. We went to Uptown Jewelers where I bought 3 charms for my Disney charm bracelet, and a CM there was nice enough to put them on my bracelet right then and there. My husband opened his mouth and suggested they might even have toe rings there (I love toe rings)…so I got another birthday present while we waited for my charm bracelet. My husband probably won’t open his mouth again.

We parked at the Beach Club and took the International Gateway to Canada, where we had a PS for 2 o’clock at Le Cellier. This was our best meal our entire trip! Katherine, our server, was exceptional. You can read more about our birthday meals in the Restaurant Forum. We found Le Cellier very relaxing and quiet, and would recommend it to anyone. Two thumbs way up! Oh, I almost forgot to mention the absolute best part….the birthday cake! It was a chocolate four layer concoction, with “Happy Birthday, from Katherine” written in dark chocolate around the plate edge. It was to DIE for!!!

The rest of the afternoon was spent at various parts of Epcot: Wonders of Life pavilion (which we had never done before and enjoyed all of the attraction within), more SHOPPING at MouseGears (one of my favorite stores in Disney), Spaceship Earth, and Innoventions (where we sent a bunch of e-cards to friends). Sadly, we didn’t experience Mission: Space because it was PACKED by afternoon and the Fast Passes were gone. Oh well, something to share with the kids in December.

We weren’t sure if we could stuff ourselves at another meal, and so we were considering skipping our PS for Cape May. However, we thought we’d probably never have the chance to eat there again, so we trucked it all the way from Mexico to the Beach Club in record time! Our PS was for 7 and the place was packed and doing a booming business. Got a chocolate cupcake with mousse in the middle this time, and an announcement that I was celebrating my 21st birthday…HA! Gotta love that!! Magic working in reverse…cool.

After stuffing ourselves at Cape May, we rolled ourselves back over to World Showcase to view Illuminations again. It was equally as awesome the second time. Note to self: Must DEFINITELY make kids stay up for this event in December…it is so worth it!

It was a long 12+ hour day at the parks, and we were ready for another relaxing swim in the pool before heading off to bed. My husband and I were AMAZED at how much we’d been able to pack into a day without the children in tow! This had been a very magical birthday, indeed!

Happy Belated Birthday. It sounds like you had a great time. I have enjoyed reading your trip reports. We are going to the most happiest place on earth in December also. Can't wait to get there, but at the same time part of the excitement is the anticipation of getting there.

Have a great day. :D
