Labor Day Weekend, a labor of love?

I spent a good chunk of yesterday doing laundry. Little miss Zoe tends to go through many outfits. Mainly because she really does think she is a princess, but there is her health issue that contribute to multiple changes as well. Since some of her clothing then needs to be ironed....I had a thought. The thought? I do NOT want to wash all these clothes again before the trip. So as early as it is, I began to pack. Rather than put something of hers away that I know we are going to take, I put it in her suitcase. I normally wouldn't have started, but all that laundry. Good grief. :confused3 Since I had her suitcase out, I also started to put some of my clothes in.:rolleyes1 I think I am getting a bit ahead of myself. Oh well.... we are ALMOST in the single digits.

:woohoo:

I love your journal. I hope your mom's health will get better with the seizures & everything else she is going through. I'm praying for her!

I think that is a very good reason to start packing- no sense making more work for yourself than necessary with extra laundry!

I'm going to start this week (which is completely out of the norm for me) because Wednesday and Thursday are my last days off before the trip. And since I am working so much and have designated 'shelter' clothes, I don't need to wear any of my 'real clothes' before the trip.

I have work clothes too and since I won't be bringing those, I thought I might as well get started on the packing. Only one week till my mom is here. I won't really have time to pack after that since I will have to get all of my work done for one week in the two days after she gets here.

So I happened to ask a question on the Pop thread regarding transportation to the Polynesian for our Ohana ADR. Basically, the consensus seems to be that I should not bother since it will be cutting it too close. I didn't realize that it would take 90 minutes to travel between Pop and the Polynesian. I guess I was thinking...ok, 15 minutes to MK and then take the monorail...and maybe an hour total. I am wondering if taking a taxi would make it work. I really wanted to do Ohana. I guess worse case, if we do have to miss this, it will mean that we won't have to do Tusker oop. We could just eat at Pop that first night and get settled in. This would mean we would definitely not use any of the extra day park ticket.

So I find myself disappointed with the thought of canceling Ohana. I don't want to do it...do I really have to? :confused3

I wouldn't cancel - I would just wait and see what time you actually make it to Pop and see if you have time. I personally think 90 minutes is worst-case scenario. I'd give it about an hour give or take 15 minutes taking Disney transportation.

Do you use the transportation calculators? Here's a link to one: http://www.ourlaughingplace.com/asp/twiz.aspx

I just add 10 to 15 minutes at each waiting station (bus stop, boat dock, monorail station).

If you're willing to get a taxi, you should have even more breathing room if your flight isnt delayed.

And btw - I'm completely jealous you got 'Ohana! :lmao:

Thank you so much for the link. Funny, it gives two options..one of which is to go to Blizzard Beach and then to Poly. That shaves 5 minutes? I wouldn't have thought to look at that as an option. I know that the time the plane lands and how long it takes us to get to Pop will really dictate if this is going to work. That being said, I figured even if it took us 2 hours to get from off the plane to Pop we would still be able to make the ADR at Ohana since that would still be an hour an a half later. I did get another response on the Pop thread that suggested that it would work. One other person still thinks if I take a taxi it just isn't worth the headache to do on that first night.

But it is Ohana..and I have never been. I can't believe I just happened to get this ADR... I think I am going to be stubborn and wait and see how this turns out. It will make for some suspense on my trip report. "did we go? did we cancel? Was I ready to jump in the lake and swim across because I was such a wreck trying to get there?" tune in to the trip report to find out. :rotfl:

Have a Great trip. I really think you will be ok for you ohana reservation. We are still deciding if we want to upgrade the dining plan. My dh wanted the QSDP now he is thinking he will miss all his favorties. I did manage to get some really good adr's by going over to the September cancle thread. So I told dh he needs to make up his mind by Friday. We just got ohana's today threw a dis canclation but it is for breakfest. I love there breakfest breads. Plus the characters for the girls.

Thanks, I am sure it will turn out just fine. What is the worse case? We miss it? We will still have a wonderful trip..after all, we will all be together and at WDW...what could be better.

:dancer: Congrats on Single digits!

thanks!

Hmm, I would totally keep 'Ohana. I've always wanted to eat there and I would probably do what it takes to get there, even if it meant paying for a taxi. I do hope you guys make it there! It would be great to hear what you thought of it!

I think I am gonna make it work... but I will for sure add the drama (cause I am sure there will be) to my trip report.

Oh my goodness! I think that this week is going to go by soooo slow. I have finished my work for the week. (which is good...shows me that I shouldn't have trouble getting next week's done before we go) We are planning to have a garage sale this weekend before my mother comes..oh and school starts Monday. Why do I think that this is going to go by slow???

Here is my schedule of events for the coming week.

Thursday, g. sale and Back to School ice cream social
Friday, g. sale
Saturday, g. sale
Sunday, get my mom and maybe make a trek to a Disney store
Monday, first day of school and work
Tuesday, finish up work
Wednessday, we fly out!!!!!

Ok...maybe it won't go by so slow. :goodvibes

Ok, and while I am still on here... I thought I would ask if anyone has any remedies for fluid retention. I know, gross...right? Here is the deal, in the heat...I swell. My ankles swell up to the point it hurts to walk and last time they bruised and the capillaries burst. In talking to my doc about it, she just suggested to stay away from salt. Well...maybe it is easier said than done. I mean...what is free dinning worth if I can't indulge a bit? Yes, I know...it may be better to walk. I just wonder if there is anything that any of you know of that works well.

Thanks a bunch!

Back on the boards and all caught up! I definitely think you can make the ADR at Ohana... I am glad you kept it. last year our plane arrived at MCO at 4:30 and we had dinner ADRs for 8:30. We were checked into our room 1.5 hours after we de-planed, and we were at the ADR by 7:45 ish. =)

I have heard that bananas and cranberry juice help with water retention.

Hooray for it being less than a week before you leave! At this time next week you'll be in WDW!!

I know what you mean about the fluid retention. I get that too. I find that the best way to combat it is to drink a lot of water, and no other liquids. The bloat usually lessens in about a day if a continually drink a lot of water. This may not be the best thing to do walking around the parks all day (too many bathroom breaks!). So sometimes, caffeinated drinks may work temporarily as it's an anti-diuretic, and also you can take some water pills, which is mostly herbs and caffeine. They do have uncaffeinated "all-natural" versions but I am not sure how effective they are. Those are mostly temporarly solutions, but they do help for a few days, but the drinking lots of water is the most "natural" remedy as does decreasing one's salt intake (but like you said, what is the point during free dining??). Hope this helps!
