just in general, why have i been seeing that this labor day is going to be a nightmare? i'm getting worried now and was under the assumption that 1. in a general pre-covid year labor day isn't bad. 2. because of everything going on that labor day would STILL not be bad

we chose labor day for many reasons, but we assumed that when comparing september crowds vs. october crowds september wins. we made our hotel reservations back in january.

as more information became available in june and july i saw many people cancelling their labor day trips.
obviously that isn't the general population, or locals, but i have been figuring that crowds will be similar to what we have seen...not much worse.

on these boards alone in the last week a lot of people are making assumptions that labor day is going to be pretty horrible.

i know the weekends are always busier and that makes me nervous to go to Universal on 9/5 (wait times were BAD this past weekend--yuck)
epcot on sun 9/6. pretty sure that will be busy with locals but we are prioritizing food booths and are okay with a more relaxed, slow touring style.
we specifically chose AK on labor day because we knew we wouldn't want DHS and figured MK would bring the general public crowds. Just like Epcot, AK doesn't have much to do so as long as we get the headliners throughout the day we will try to be patient as much as possible.
MK on tues 9/8
Back to Universal on weds 9/9
DHS on thurs 9/10
Universal again on fri 9/11
home on sat 9/12

the crowd calendar doesn't have availability for DHS saturday and sunday before labor day, but good thing we are avoiding that. then the rest of the week is open. even labor day itself.

i don't know i guess I'm just curious as to why the crowds that whole week are suspected to be horrid.
makes me super nervous

It’s all based on peoples comfort level. Will it be as crazy as holidays in a pre-COVID world? Absolutely not. But will it be more crowded than it’s probably been since it reopened? I would think so. Weekends have steadily been getting more crowded at the parks, so a holiday weekend is definitely going to add to that. I don’t think the rest of the week will be bad, just the 3 day weekend.

Labor day is typically the least busy holiday, so that's a past precedent because most Florida schools have been back in class for several weeks. Typically many other US schools don't go back until after Labor day so there is usually travel for that. However, this year you don't know. Local schools have already started in Orlando area and all are scheduled to start by the end of August. Capacity has not been increased at any of the parks, so it's going to be less crowded than a typical year anyhow. But.... with limited choices on resorts, and limited choices for TS, and park reservations in place, you might find that the plans you have put you in a more crowded situation just because. Yesterday morning was a ghost town at MK, but others said AK and DHS were crowded, and MK was said to be crowded Saturday. At this point, if you are going expecting empty parks, you will likely not see that over Labor Day weekend, but starting on Tuesday, it might be the equivalent of the last 2 hurricane situations. I would expect nothing close to what you might have experienced as "crowded" in the past. I see no reason to be nervous about crowds. We have gone to both DHS and AK on Sundays in the last month and did everything we wanted and left before 2 (that includes MMRR, RotR, RnR, TSMM x 3 at DHS, and FoP x3, EE x 2, KS, Dino, and Kali at AK). Have fun!!

We are also going over Labor Day weekend (parks on Sat, Sun, and Mon) and hoping the crowds aren't too bad. Maybe higher than they have been for the past month since re-opening, but hopefully lower than I have ever seen them before!

i think its just a bit of paranoia. i really like the look of the crowds today--and hoping that our tuesday thru friday days will be pretty sweet.

concerned about the weekend/labor day monday I'm sure it will be a bit of an increase while not being TOO overwhelming. or at least my fingers are crossed.

i read that this past weekend was more of a 'last hurrah' for some florida residents due to their children going back to school, and hoping that that holds true over labor day. again, if anything maybe there will just be a small spike the weekend of, but hopefully come tuesday it is easy peezy

I have no idea about how it will be now that covid is around, but I was leaving saturday of labor day weekend in 2017 and the week leading up to it wasn't bad, but crowds started to build Thursday and Friday at MK felt like wall to wall especially in the area over by Peter Pan. We were only in the parks a little bit on Saturday but it also felt crowded. It is definitely less busy than other holidays, but generally still rather crowded.

Where are you seeing it will be "a nightmare"?

Holiday weekends are always going to be more crowded but in general Labor Day wekend isn't too bad.
Last year it was because SWGE was opening plus F&W.
This year I'd say it will be pretty dead.

well we'll be there!

9/6 Epcot
9/7 MK
9/8 Universal
9/9 HS
9/10 AK

I am considering moving MK day, but it's the last 7pm opening, so I'm on the fence with that.

mainly just a few posters on other threads that keep saying the crowds are getting worse and worse and to avoid labor day. i know that it's just opinions and speculation and no one really knows, but once i see the 8th person say that labor day isn't going to be so hot i start to question myself. especially because up until a few days ago i hadn't even reconsidered

My only concern was when I saw DHS reservations were all sold out for the weekend. That to me just signifies that it will be busier than it has been when it isn't sold out.

Not the person you had replied to but CNN had an article a few days ago about how one million people are headed to Disney this Labor Day weekend. I didnt click into the article so I have no idea about how they got their numbers or even how that compares to, say, last weekend. But its more than some on here that think Labor Day weekend will be crowded (I dont think any of us mean pre Covid crowded but rather hard to SD crowded). It seems each weekend we are seeing an uptick so it isnt outrageous to think that trend will continue. Especially with that weekend being seen as the last hurrah of summer.

Pre-covid Ld weekend, week after is traditionally lower crowds. Having said that right now it's way more locals attending than out of state ppl. I expect that Fri.- Mon. ti have a lot of locals. That's also the last weekend before even more park hr reductions, which complicates both during and after more. I expect wait times during those 4 days to be longer than what ppl. who go during that time are used to waiting.

Lol..."last hurrah" is what ppl on here said about the weekend prior too. I think it's just weekends are busy now.

Lol...that's about our exact schedule too (but no universal for us.) We too are debating about moving 9/7 MK, but with the last day of being open later and adrs already set.

I think you'll be fine Tues.- Fri. I just think the Fri. prior through Mon. will be pretty rough.

i just moved AK to Labor Day, MK to Tuesday and we’ll do Universal on the Thursday. :rotfl::rotfl:

During Labor Day weekend (Friday - Monday) the park’s will most likely be more crowded than they’ve been lately, given it’s a holiday weekend. While Labor Day is typically one of the least crowded holiday weekends, it is still crowded because it’s a holiday weekend.

The day after Labor Day is when it usually gets much quieter, and for the rest of the week crowds are typically low.

On top of that I just think in general there will be many more locals than usual this LD weekend/Mon.
