We have an almost 2 year old Lab and her personality is changing but I am not sure if it is just maturity or something else. She is so calm it is almost scary. She follows me around and when I sit at my desk she crawls under the chair. She really has calmed down. Is this how it happens? She still plays catch and runs around outside. Does her little playful stuff but really has calmed down.

She is still the age of jumping up and down and driving you crazy.
They are still a playful puppy until about 3 or 4. Your dog might be different, though.

Most dogs will calm down around the age of two or a little after that age. My Simon didn't calm down until he was 3. Unfortunately, it looks like his daughter Gracie is going to be the same as her father. Her nickname is wild thing.

Yup, it's natural. My Lab was so hyper! Whoooo! It was embarrassing! Around 21/2 -3, he just calmed down. Like magic. He will play really hard, but he's able to calm himself now, it's not constant movement for almost 20/7! When someone comes in the home, he still gets rowdy for about 10 minutes, then he calms down. It's wonderful! Labs are wonderful, wonderful dogs. :) :)

You guys are making me feel better about my lab. He is 15 months old doxdogy's lab he is a wild thing until last Saturday afterneen. We took him to be grromed (only his second time) and we kept warning them that he is full of piss and vinegar. We dropped him off at 10:30am and they called for us to get him at 3:30  . last time he was only gone for 1 1/2 hours. This groomer said he only barked for about 2 minutes when we dropped him off and he had been a good boy the whole day! I was stunned. I told them them MUST be mistaken. He was well mannered that whole weekend. He has been better since though not as well behaved, but I can see a difference.
He went to the Vet Monday afternoon, he got 4 shots and they let them take a blood sample without jumping on everything and being out of control(which is sooo embarrassing). I had also reminded them what he was like and asled them to tell me when to take him out of the car and bring him in. They said he was being good and that they had a crazier lab that comes in. Thank goodness.
When people first discoveredI had a dog and asked what kind, I usually replied,"A bad dog" I hope I never have to jest about that again.
I just can't wait to aloow him into the rest of my house as he has been banned, due to general craziness ;)
But we love the stuffing out of him.

We have a pound puppy who is part Lab. He calmed down when he was 2 also. It's funny that you mentioned that yours sits under your computer chair. Mine curls up under my desk while I DIS. He has to curl up really small since the space is much smaller than he is, but he likes it that way. I think that Labs do act like puppies for longer than many other breeds, but they calm down and start acting like other big dogs eventually.

Hunter is still VERY hyper. He will be 2 Feb. 13th. I hope by 3 he will start showing some signs of calming down!

So my dog was weird and the info I got seems to be correct, but only for my dog. :teeth:

Consider yourself lucky if your labbie calmed down at 2. I couldn't wait for mine to turn 2, then 2 1/2, then 3, then 3 1/2. Finally he is starting to behave. He is also curled up at my feet. Labs love to be with their families, mine follows me from room to room to room. He is always in whatever room I'm in and we finally had to move his bed to our room so he would stop barking in the middle of the night. I guess having his own couch wasn't good enough for him. Warning, do not EVER leave your lab on the bed. At first it will be a nice little treat, then it will be an every day occurrence and then you will get the eyeball for disturbing him in HIS bed.

Too funny about the bed thing! Our lab sleeps with DD not sure how it started.I htink we thought it was funny when we went to bed she would go up stairs too ( all past dogs slept down stair) Then with just a nod she would jump up on her bed. Well now she goes to bed on her own! Around 10:30 she gets up and looks at us and heads to bed, jumps up and makes her self comfy! If we take her off she jumps right back on. funny thing is she won't sleep on anyone else's bed!
